My grandma was took into hospital, she's back out at the care home now but she's on pallative care now so we know this is the beginning of the end for her

Advice is carry on as normal for now cause me and family up here cannot drop everything and rush down there, we'd only be able to do that if the end of her life was known to be approaching

She could have months left, she could have weeks left, we don't know, all the news we got so far is about the pallative care thing

I am so sorry that this is happening. The question how long is often one with no answers. Sometimes we get a chance to say goodbye, sometimes not regardless of how far away another person is.

I'm 200ish miles away from her so can only go down there when I can get time off work, when she was able to talk on the phone I'd phone her up and she'd phone me, since moving to the care home though she's found it harder to communicate so talking on the phone isn't a option any more, her brain jumps around too much so she can't really hold a phone conversation any more

It is so sad when they get to that point in life. Visit when you can.. that is all you can do. She is getting the best care where she is & being kept comfortable.

You sound like in a similar place as me with my own grandmother with distance, phone communication ceased being an option, and pallative care-which over here it's called assisted living.

My grandma's been visited by my brother today as well, she's back in the care home but in bed and on oxygen but she's able to recognise people now, they're basically keeping her comfortable for the rest of her life cause they can't do anything more for her now.

I understand. I lost my mother in February at age 90 and the docs said they couldn't do anything for her in the end. I stayed with her in the hospital as much as I can before she passed.

We're hoping to get back down to see her on Saturday, weather allowing. If the weather turns bad I'll never see her again

Be gentle on yourself The weather is going to do what the weather is going to do. I'm sure your gram wouldn't want to think of you in harms way. I wanted to see mine on Friday but it was an icy mess and my kids sleep schedules radically changed over this last weekend of vacation. Back in November with a gallbladder infection diagnosis things got a bit heightened over everyone feeling like it was time to see her asap. Her being the fighter she is, battled off that infection and has made it through the holidays. If my last moment to see her was my last, I'll be at peace. And if there's more moments to come, I will cherish those.

It's tough to know the final stages are here and that it is a matter of time.

Finding peace in the matter is what matters.

edit: I'm now imagining grandma and grandad being together when the time comes and Ebony being there as well thinking this way hurts though

My grandma's stable at the moment but she can't move apart from twitching around and she can't talk now, the staff there are having to move her manually every time they want to move her anywhere, they have to put her in a wheelchair and move her to a chair then have to move her around cause she can't move by herself, she's too weak to do anything now


I'll never see her again


They stole Ebony away and poor sweetpea Ebony only knew getting hurt by scumbags before rescue took her in then 4 years later I had to say goodbye to poor Ebony and the nazis stole her body away and made her alive again and are hurting her
