I just need to let these awful emotions out. My dog (13 yrs old) started having a hard time breathing last night. Amazing, but he still kept his sweet temperment even though he was super stressed and nearing death (I didn't know that yet).

We rushed him to the animal hospital and the xrays showed a huge tumor in his chest that had finally pushed part of his trachea against his spine closing it off! The doc said that he wouldn't make it through the night--surgery was impossible.

I had to sign the paperwork to put him down so he wouldn't die in pain and fear. I feel awful--I signed his life away. I know it was to help him, but I still feel that I sent him away.
We loved each other very much and he always watched that no one strange came near our house when my husband wasn't home. He wouldn't leave my side if I was sick or sad.

My husband and I never taught him any of these things--he was just a loveable, devoted friend.

Sorry for a sad story but I need to get this pain out of my system.

I'm so sorry. I had to put my service dog of 15 years down, held him while he went.. it is so hard, but it is the humane thing to do. It's been 2 1/2 years and it still hurts.

It is so hard and painful and especially when it happens so suddenly
You gave him a peaceful and comfortable ending and that's a very loving thing to do
Thanks for this!

I can relate to your story.
The dogs I spent so many hours were very special for me.
It was sad and painful to lose them.

I am sorry that you didn't have much time to say good-bye.
But he is not suffering anymore.
I believe you did the best thing for him.
Thanks for this!

Journey Upward, I am so sorry to hear about your dog. Just sat down when one of my cats jumped on me. Told her how she keeps me alive, then read your sad story. I really feel for you. I still miss my extra special dog who I had to put down about 20 years ago. They are our loves, our non-judgemental, dedicated, loyal, sweet friends. I'm really sorry for you.

I;m so very sorry you lost your dog, your friend. But the above posts are right! It was very couragous of you to let him go instead of keeping him with you and him suffering....~gentle hugs~
