Very sad that he is dead. Even more sad that it was by his own hand. Fear and Loathing because Hunter S. Thompson is gone

Will the next Generation of Swine know of this lunatic man who took journalism to gonzo heights?

Tonight I shall raise a dry Sapphire martini in honour of the late Mr. Thompson. [raising the glass doesn't mean I'm gonna drink it! Fear and Loathing because Hunter S. Thompson is gone more of an offering to the memory of his crazy living]

Oh, Zen...I'm so broken by this. And I'm just now reading Impossible vacation by Spalding Gray! It's the saddest....to think of them both gone.

Thank you for this post.

Blessings on both writers for their words moved many.

DAMN woman! I'm broken up and then you go bring Spalding into it? Fear and Loathing because Hunter S. Thompson is gone

I agree on the blessings. Thank goodness their works live on. Would ya post what you think of the book in the fun forum when you're done? Love to know your opinions on Gray's work.

(((Emmy))) it is a dark day for lovers of wacky literature and gonzo journalism.

I think we need to keep a list of LIVING artists (writers, singers, performers) with mental illness so that we can be inspired instead of these type of posts when we lose one to the disease. Fear and Loathing because Hunter S. Thompson is gone You game? Maybe tonight when I return I'll start one in the Fun forum and see if we can't keep it going.

I just posted about this in the depression forum, but Angela made me aware of the thread here ... I am heartbroken that one of my heroes chose to do this to himself. I seem to be fond of a lot of artistic types who end up doing this, though. I wonder if my being a fan of someone is a curse? ;-)

I'm going to go grade the papers of 19-year-olds who never heard of the guy and are all the poorer for it.

very appropriate tribute to a man of talent and one who falls into the catagory of "too sensitive for this cruel world"...Did you read the newspaper quotes from his son today? I thought that they were amazing observations....His son stated that he didn't think that his father committed suicide because he was depressed or in pain...he said that he thought his father believed that his work was done and that he simply didn't want to hang around....wow
