I am wondering if I should visit the doctor about this or if it is ok to wait...

I have what may be a swollen spleen, it's a visible lump at the bottom of my left ribcage, on the front. I had kind of noticed it before but then I bought a new top the other day which is close-fitting and it made me think that I hadn't seen such a lump in other people. It is hard and I thought it was bone but I was talking with a friend online who suggested it might be a swollen spleen.

Also I have a visible pulse in my abdomen, in the centre, just above the navel. I don't think that is especially new either. I have also lost some weight recently so that might make it more noticeable.

I am abroad and while i do have health insurance here which can be claimed back, I am wondering if it would be easier to wait until I return home in over a month, when I could go to my GP and have any necessary tests etc.

The pulse thing is normal. If you've lost weight - that's most likely why. I can feel + see my pulse all over my stomach/navel area and can also feel my heart on my ribcage area very clearly and it's actually quite scary but it's nothing to worry about.

It's a good idea to see a doctor anytime you have concerns about your health. I think you would feel relieved to have these things attended to by your doctor, so I can't see any reason to not go.
Thanks for this!

Hi there Silver,

I wouldn't be afraid to see a Dr. out of your country, after all, some of the healthcare in other countries are very good, and it might relieve your mind while you are away from home.

((((silverqueen)))

It's nice to see your name here again on PC, as I have missed you.

I hope you are in good health, and feeling happy, and this worry is subsiding. Others offered very good advice.

It's good to hear from someone who can actually see you and what your concern is ~ so I'd go, and if you do, please don't be afraid, ok?

Peace and Love and Wellness
Night

Thanks for all the replies.

I got checked out today since I began having back chest pain too, and I was told it is scoliosis. The doctors (two of them looked) were certain the lump was ribcage, not spleen. They decided I have scoliosis and that is what is causing the back pain too, due to compressed nerves.

It's so good that you were able to have yourself looked at.

Did they have some recomendations for you for you, in the meantime. for the scoliosis, pain and various other issues? Waiting till you return may be a bit to long.

Really happy to see you again and missed your sweet ways. Hope to see you around again soon.

The doctor recommended using things like paracetamol for the pain and heat pads/ hot water bottles too. He also suggested seeing an orthopedic about it too, but that would be better when I'm back home.

At least I know what it is now, I was in a real panic about it before, lol.

So happy you found out what was going on! Sometimes we worry and worry, and it is a releif to have a name for what is wrong. Now you and your doctor back home can work out a plan of action.

Silver, it is good to see you on PC - I am glad you found out what it is! I too have that pulse thing (and WebMD freaked me out fairly well) but when the Dr checked my pulse and heart rate she was no longer worried.
Have been meaning to pm you...
Hope you are alright.

Just wondering if you have had any more of the the chest pain since you were checked out? Did they say the chest pain was part of your diagnosis or did they say? Perhaps it is anxiety connected to the pain? Don't hesitate to go back to the Drs. there should you need to before you leave being abroad.

Missed you,
Hunny

Yeah, the chest pain was the bad back ache I was experiencing over my back ribcage. The doctor told me it was due to compression of the nerves due to the scoliosis, but as I've only had one episode since visiting the dr of a moderate ache, and other times it is very slight, I think the pain was brought on or worsened by my very tense muscles from anxiety. Since my anxiety has dropped after I got the dx, the back ache has diminished a lot, over all.
