My 16 year old son stayed home from school sick today. One of his friends called to check if he had the H1N1 virus that closed down our neighboring school. I wasn't aware that the school a couple miles away was closed because of H1N1, the news said nothing. I knew there was one 30 miles away closed, THAT made news because it was going to affect one of their sports teams.

So I called my doctor's office, gave them my son's symptoms and he has to go in tomorrow morning for a test. I don't usually panic easily, it never even occurred to me that this might even be a possibility, he had no exposure that I knew about.

A light goes on just this second! They fought so that they could participate in the sporting activities in that neighboring town, the team all came into McDonalds while we were there. Oh for crying out loud! What next?

try not to panic too much, the regular flu kills more people then the swine flu (which is why I'm not worried about H1n1)

Yeah I've read all those reports. I would feel more comfortable if it were one of the other kids. This one has always gotten sicker and stayed sicker longer than the rest. I'm not worried that his life is in danger or we'd be at the ER.

I just posted about Walgreens giving the vaccination. I looked it up on the CDC, and they said the shot is safe. I know were I'm at, it is running around in the schools. I just don't want it. Let us know how your son is.

Thanks for the info everyone. We'll be leaving for the doctor in about an hour. One of the reason's we're going is to make sure we're within the 48 hour time frame so the antiviral will work if needed.

I just feel so stupid! Don't get me wrong, I bring the kids in to the doctor when they need it, but when they get a bug, it's not my first thought "hey they need a doctor". I haven't been freaking out about this virus, I thought our risk was non-existant. We're good hand washers, I taught my kids very early the proper way (I thought) to cough and sneeze.

Thanks, it's confirmed that he has the flu (tested positive) Dr feels it is H1N1, but is sending the culture to the state for further testing.

Yes, they gave us tamiflu. This particular child gets much sicker and stays sicker longer than all the rest. I've been giving him OTC meds for fever and aches, but fever is still very difficult to manage at this point.

His fever is much lower today. He had some energy yesterday and over did it and was exhausted. The respiratory issues are still pretty bad, but at least he's eating and drinking again.
