I just found out that Walgreens is selling the H1N1 vaccation shot. The shot is under $20.00 at Walgreens. So, everyone call or check online to see witch Walgreens is selling it.

Thanks for the info Michele. I live in Canada and flu shots are given free - I wonder if they'll charge for it here like in the US.

I'm paranoid about getting the vaccine. I keep hearing all these news reports about all these bad side effects from it and I'm also weary because it hasn't been tested for very long. I don't want to get sick from the vaccine but I also don't want to get the h1n1 virus... I"m really stumped on this one...

I had it about just under 2 months ago. if you catch it within the first 48 hrs and get to a dr they have tammaflu that works wonders! I started feeling better within a couple of days. once the temp started coming down it wasn't so bad.

Just wondering what you heard about it? I went to the CDC and they said that the shot is safe. I just don't want to get sick. Some of the school kids here have gotten this flu, and I really don't want it in my house. Our 8 year old will get a cold, and then we all get it.

I wish I could remember where I saw that report. on cnn I think. just that it had not been tested and the pharmacist where my husband got his regular flu shot told my husband do not get the h1n1 due to severe side affects and it causing problems with alot of people taking it. I think of course CDC is going to start out saying nothing is wrong with the shots. they want people to take it to keep it from spreading. I think the risk of not taking it is alot lower. just my opinion though. I had h1n1 and caught it pretty fast. well at least just under 48 hours. I was able to take the tammaflu pill and got over the bad part pretty quickly.

PLEASE NOTE:

I asked my hubby about the vaccine. My husband works next door to one of two of the national call centers for the Centers for Disease Control here in the US. They have doctors and nurses working there. The word is, the H1N1 vaccine is safe with the following limitations: pick the nasal spray, it's safer. It is a live virus and the recipient might come down with a very mild form of the flu but it is not guaranteed that they will become sick. If they would have a reaction, it would be very mild and completely managable. Second, there is mercury in the vaccine. This is the same as any of the measles, mumps, etc. vaccines that children get routinely in our country. It is not an issue unless the child is allergic to mercury.

bebop maybe this is what you are refering too. At Fort Dix feb 1976 swine flu happened . Some ppl were given shots for swine flu . It did not work out so well. Here is the link. http://www.capitalcentury.com/1976.html
imo they were not tested as they could have been.

cdc link http://www.cdc.gov/H1N1flu/vaccination/pregnant_qa.htm
Does the 2009 H1N1 flu shot have mercury in it?

There is no evidence that thimerosal (a mercury preservative in vaccine that comes in multi-dose vials) is harmful to a pregnant woman or a fetus. However, because some women are concerned about thimerosal during pregnancy, vaccine companies are making preservative-free seasonal flu vaccine and 2009 H1N1 flu vaccine in single dose syringes for pregnant women and small children. CDC advises pregnant women to get flu shots either with or without thimerosal.
imo if you can get it with out the thimerosal in it ..safer as mercury at times has been wondered if it can leed to autism.. Wondering why if they can make it with out it they just take that out.
Also nasel one is Not recommened to woman who are pregnet.
"The other type of flu vaccine—a nasal spray—is not approved for pregnant women. This vaccine is made with live, weakened flu virus. Nasal spray flu vaccine should be used only in healthy people 2-49 years of age who are not pregnant. The nasal spray vaccine is safe for women after they have delivered, even if they are nursing."

one more ((ty)) from cnn
"
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced last week that production of the vaccine is slower than expected. While the CDC had hoped for 40 million doses by the end of October, the real numbers will be about 30 million doses because of manufacturing delays, said Dr. Anne Schuchat, CDC's director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases.
Public health departments across the country are quickly running out of H1N1 vaccine and don't know when the next batches will arrive. "

Very interesting....my doctor specifically said DON'T get the nasal spray as it is a live virus and less safe...get the shot! I'll clarify with her...this may be specific for me because I am asthmatic. It doesn't seem very logical to inhale a live, respiratory virus, right into the lungs, when one has a pre-existing lung issue.

Anyway...I am in no way opposed to flu vaccines...H1N1 or seasonal...but will be sticking with injectables!

Yes, it's probably because you have asthma.

My 3 kids had the intranasal H1N1 vaccine last Thursday and have had no side effects thus far. I felt grateful that there were able to receive it.
Thanks for this!

Always consult your doctors if you have medical questions, folks. They can give you better advice than us nameless people on the Internet! They are familiar with national guidelines and research findings.

That said, on the advice of my physician, I am definitely getting the H1N1 shot (I've already had my seasonal shot). I have gotten the flu shot annually for 20 years with no ill effects. I started the year after I had the flu and it turned into life-threatening pneumonia that landed me in the hospital (I have asthma, so I am at risk for such complications).

Ive heard good things and bad things about the H1N1 flu shot. I am not sure yet I plan on talking to the DR and then making my decision.

As of right now our Walgreens hasn't gotten the shot in. I have been doing a lot of research online about the h1n1, and IMO I think that it is safer to get the shot. I'm not doing the nasal spay, because I don't like things being stuck up my nose.
Where I live at there has been some schools that have shut down over it, and matter of fact my bf knows someone who he works with has gotten it in their family. We have an 8 year old here who gets sick easy. This h1n1 seems very painful, and it last long. So just IMO if you can prevent it, then why not do that.
I did read where the swine flu was back in the 70's. I think the shot is much safer now. I think that if you get the h1n1 it is more of a risk then not taking the shot. And if anyone is like me, you can't stand seeing people in pain especially kids.

I've heard a lot of people (in 3d, not necessarily here) saying that they do not trust the H1N1 vaccine because it is new. It is important for people to understand that every flu shot is new, every year. That is the nature of the flu. The viruses that are around change, different strains every year, they also mutate...therefore, the vaccine in response is "new" every year.
