I know I shouldn't have done it but I did it anyway I ate a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich. Now I am itchy all over. I am allergic to peanuts and I shouldn't have eaten the sandwich but darn it those commercials looked so good. Why do they do it?

I know that eating peanuts could possibly kill me but so far all the peanut allergy has done to me is make me itch thank God. I told Dan why I was itching and he told me more than I ever wanted to know about allergies. Dan is my home health nurse. I got scared though when he said that just because one time I just itched and got hives that next time it could be anaphlaxis. So I guess I should just kiss my peanut butter and jelly sandwiches good bye.

Yes, it can build up so the next time it does kill you. That is too bad, I can't imagine being allergic to peanuts (or other nuts). My grandkids went to a pre-school where anything peanuts was banned totally for lunch and it was a synagogue school so they had their kosher rules going too. Hard to figure out what to feed a pre-schooler.

I had a reaction to penicillin when I was 14 or so but was at camp and it was confusing and I'm not quite sure but I always put it down, they make sure I know it could kill me if I had it again.

Uhhh, yes jbug!!

Allergies to peanuts are very serious. Asphyxiation can happen. If you don't watch your diet closely, you seriously need to get an Epi Pen to prevent asphyxiation from occurring followed by an immediate call to 9-1-1.

Sorry, if I've come off poorly. I am very passionate about this topic. I've suffered with chronic hives and angioedema, for about one year, twice now. I've yet to find out the cause of my trigger/s, but I have met many, many sufferers of this dangerous condition. Please do take it seriously. It sucks ~ so I highly recommend following your doctor's orders and avoid peanut butter, peanuts, peanut oils. Read labels to avoid triggering something serious. You have great power ~ please use it!

I know exactly how you feel. I am allergic to onions but that doesn't stop me from ordering onion rings every time I go to burger king. I break out in a rash all over every time too.

Definitely jbug! Allergies are not something to mess around with! When we were in Japan a friend of ours was allergic to chicken, but LOVED this chicken dish they had at all of the festivals. It was like finger food, four pieces of marinade chicken the size of a dime on a skewer.

He would only eat one skewer, but you could watch his lips and face swell up like a balloon. I don’t know if he ate them too frequently or what, but the last time he had a single piece, the size of a dime and his throat closed, he couldn’t breath. It was an awful mess.

I was telling my aunt about my allergy and she didn't know but was telling me about this person that died because she kissed this person that had eaten a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch. Kind of freaked me out. I have learned my lesson no more peanuts of any kind for me.

Yes, peanut allergies are literally changing American society. Some people are so severely allergic that children are not allowed to bring them to school for lunches.

I learned a valuable lesson today. Always read the box of a product you have never eaten before. I got the Weight Watchers Enchiladas Suiza and now am broken out and all itchy. I never expected Enchiladas to have peanuts in them. I now know my allergy is progressing though which doesn't make me happy because before I just itched and now I have hives. I have taken some benadryl and some of my other allergy medicine and will see what else needs to be done if anything. Right now it is just irritating literally and figuratively.

But I have learned now always read the box.

This doesnt solve your problem however...i am severly allergic to guinea pigs...yes...not hamsters...not rodents at all..just guinea pigs..i got a guinea pig with a friend of mine and was holding it and i "felt" like i was so tired i just had to shut my eyes..you know when ur eyes wont stay open any longer...well my friend turned around and started yelling at me to hand her the guinea pig because apparently...my face swelled up..i got white dots all over my face my tears made burn streaks down my face and my throat started closing up..lovely..it was wonderful...but anyway back to what i was going to say..her grandmother rushed in to make a pot of coffee..im like oh thanks..im so important u gotta fill your coffee craving right now...but she came back and told me to drink the whole cup...and my throat definitely "widened?" ...i took benedryl and that coffee really helped me..so in emergencies drink coffee at least to get a head start on your throat closing if you get that system..if you cant drink coffee then well...im sorry and disregard my whole comment lol.

Allergies are so tough to work around. I learned early in life about them ... things no one else in the world needed to know like, paper plates are made of corn, and jello is pork and gelatin is beef.

I have anaphylactic reactions to several items. But most all of my allergic reactions begin with closing my airway. One thanksgiving a few years ago, my mom and sister had invited me over for dinner. I chose only the basic foods (without gravy etc) but still got into trouble over something that normally didn't bother me. After using my rescue breather and saying I couldn't figure out what caused it, my sister admitted she had added something I am allergic to...mother then added in that they thought if I didn't know it was in there, I wouldn't get sick. Thanksgiving ended early.

Two other things I learned along the way, from the allergist. You either CRAVE or ABHOR the things you are allergic to...making it more difficult if you love something.

Having reactions is not a good solution. It isn't like ok your body reacts and then heals. There can be tragic results from continually forcing a severe reaction I think. It's like migraines, just because you take medication when you get one doesn't mean your body isn't suffering from the migraine anyway, and it's doing damage. You really need to totally avoid an allergen or get treated for it.

(((Feel better everyone)))

Thanks a lot for that. I need to remember that because I have a lot of food allergies and don't always think to look at the label. I told my mom about it too because she is allergic to some of the spices in Mexican food but yet she loves it so she eats it and pops the benadryl and sometimes it doesn't work. So she was glad to hear about that.

Oh yeah, labels! I found something lately...what was it??? Oh! That new juice drinks from ??? hmmm now can't recall that...but they have all these great names etc. I had a coupon for some, in their effort to promote the new products, and was about to buy but of course, checked the label. THEY have cranberry in them! You would never think that something labelled (IDK real name but say..) blueberry juice would have cranberry in it!

There's another product I checked out recently--those "diet" cookies? They are made from rice! I can't do rice either, makes my joints burn with pain. I really liked the idea of a cookie for a healthy snack. Rice. Of all things.

Keep reading those labels!

I never thought to look on the bottle of the blueberry juice to see about cranberry juice and I bought a bottle and broke out in hives and then was trying to figure out what I had ate or drank. I said well it was the blueberry juice but we didn't think to look at the label to see if it had cranberries in I guess I should have known they would since it made OceanSpray. Go figure.
