soy products, lots of them, should help. eat tofu every chance you get. you can find tons of good recipes on the net. i have an excellent smoothie recipe in the food section. i actually use 1 cup of tofu, instead of what the recipe calls for. stir fry it, scrambles it with egg beaters, etc.......... soy milk is good..especially the chocolate.

Spicy foods can make us flash, one of the many triggers.
Power Surge This is a decent menopause site, though as always with web information, use what you can and ignore the rest. ![]()

When a woman experiences hot flashes...a strong trigger is taking in "hot" foods. Especially hot coffee.
By 42 I was in peri-menopause. When I turned 50 my periods were all over the chart. I'd go for say 7-9 months with no menstrual cycle..them whammo. I literally thought I was bleeding to death. Keep an eye out for anemia from now on. My iron was so low..I almost needed a transfusion. I was told to get a hysterectomy because of the severity..of the bleeding..but at that time..I had NO health insurance. I had to take it on the chin and try to wait until I was Post-menopausal. 4-5 weeks ago I entered the post menopause stage. No more hot flashes and night sweats. All that is over and , boy...am I glad. Dottie ![]()

Evening Primrose oil & Omega-3 fatty acids can help w/menopausal symptoms & bad PMS, too.

wow! you guys have been so helpful! thank you so much!
dottie, good point on the anemia thing...having a problem with very "heavy", etc. thing is, it probably won't affect me one bit...i have a very HIGH iron count. dr told me never to take supplements, etc. in fact, i never became amemic during either pregnancy, etc. my niece had to have her blood thinned because she had a dangerously high level. it must be hereditary. i guess that can be a plus. i also have extremely dense and heavy bones. hmmm, this might be good AFTER menopause. good responses and thanks so much. i'd never heard about hot/spicy foods triggering hot flashes, but they surely are! love, kd

When I was on the depo shot, I was informed that that put me into a sort of perimenopause. The clinician recommended Estroven. I got the generic brand, it it helps a lot. I'm only 26, and when I eat spicy foods I get hot flashes! I think that's probably pretty normal.

yep there's a whole list of foods that increase symptoms.... also with EPO, black or blue cohosh helps .. all I used. I became so anemic (still am) that I need an infusion but doctor won't do it since I'm also allergic. It plays with your mind too, btw.

See if you can find red clover. It used to be avaliable at Wal-mart. Now..I can't seem to find it anywhere. It was the only thing that would take the edge off the hot flashes.

I had a hysterectomy at the age of 29!!! (Yes, 29!!) They left my ovaries which continued to work for around 2 years after the op then i noticed that i got palpatitations and night sweats from hell!!! Also had a bone density scan done they discovered that i have osteoporosis too, I am on hormone replacement therapy which is absolutely brilliant, my mum also had a hysterectomy and had hrt for around 15 years but now takes herbal replacements, black cohosh is one of the many various complementary meds. The joys of being a woman!!
However, a point to ponder is that hrt is much like other meds, it takes a while for it to actually start doing its 'job' but once it does its brilliant!! Obviously I go for regular blood pressure monitoring. I have found the patches to be the best way to take hrt as the tablets gave me migraines and the gel rubs off on clothing....... ![]() |
