I have a migraine today!!!!! I am dying! It started yesterday and went all night long....didn't hardly sleep at all. I got up this morning and yep it is still there....
I am soo weak and tired today. My eyes are swollen and puffy. I look like s***. atleast that is what some one at work told me!! I didnt think I looked that bad...lol

I wish i knew exactly what causes my migraines. I have TMJ so that contributes to it. I also get them close to the time of my monthly cycle! I have tried birth control to try to control them but I ended up with either swelling in my legs or worse headaches.... can't win for losing huh.

ARRRGGGGHHHH! Just about to die today !!!!

((((((Mrb)))))))

I hope you are feeling better today. Try some advil extra strength (gel caps)...they seem to work lately with mine. Also, place an ice cold cloth on the back of your neck and forehead....helps with the swelling.

Take care

I didn't know you suffered from migraines!!! I hope your pain stops soon and I'll say a prayer for you today. Geeze, I had no idea you suffered from them. I am so sorry. I wish I could "poof"...make it go away.

My hubby has been taking Topomax (? I can look up if you're interested) and it's a preventative medicine he's been taking for about 2 months for migraines. He says it alleviates 80% of them (he gets them alot) and they also don't seem to be as bad since he's been on it.

Try to stay inside as much as you can...things can wait. It's hard to make things wait but try as hard as you can, rest, and take good care of yourself.

If you are susceptible to migraines then anything can set one off. TMD is a major contributor, and can require surgery at worst and a splint at best. Watching what you eat is important, and how you move your jaw... not just when eating but other times. (Don't cradle the phone on your shoulder, keep your tongue at the top back of your mouth with teeth slightly apart, etc.) Hormones are often a problem, making the issue worse. There are certain foods that do make it worse in themselves, and not just because you shouldn't have tried to chew them! i have a migraine today

Since you said you had pain in the neck also, I'm thinking you also have stress headaches. So you might be fighting two different things! Personally I find that imitrex worked ok, but I really like the Zomig disintegrating tablets.. work fast! The faster you treat a migraine, as you probably know, the easier it might be to handle. I also use the Zomig nasal spray when I wake up in the night already with a migraine!

But have you tried ginger? In any form you can get it or want it.... it helps.

Cool, dark, quiet ahhhhhh I have some that are: lie on the side of the bed facing outward with a bucket on the floor.. knowing full well I will barf and when I do, the brains will explode.

Feel better.

Ok, the medicine is Topomax and doctors are prescribing it at a very low dose for migraine prevention. The drug was used for something else at a much higher dose and it was recently discover it helped migraines at the very low dose. Ask your doctor about it, you never know.

I went to eat dinner after work with hubby and the kids, then came home and laid down. just got up... i feel 100% better. It is is still lingering but not as bad as it was.
I didnt realize that by cradling my phone on my shoulder that it might cause migraines..... duh I do it alllll day

I was in a bad wreck when i was younger and I hit the left side of my head on the side window. It was after that, that i started having migraines......they start on the right side of my head right above my eye. i had a wreck march of last year ( i am a good driver i promise have only had 1 ticket) and got whiplash, I think that has something to do with it too.

Thanks everyone for the support, I will check into the meds. I need to go in for a check up soon anyways...

P.S. I have tried Maxalt the dissolving tablet, all it did was numb my body but my head still hurt.

K hope you feel better. BTW, since I just saw you in chat... the red font will cause migraines, and red and blue alternating is even worse!
Yeah, the phone cradling especially because of your tmd... anything that causes the muscles to pull or work the jaw more will do it. TC

Excellent headache info at:

http://www.headachedrugs.com/pdf/HA2005.pdf

I have migraines myself and this article has been very useful in my research.

Some of us experience both a prodrome and postdrome effect as part of our entire migraine cycle, was really helpful for me to identify this and learn more. One of many descriptions of this is at:

I hadn't heard of either of those two drugs, of course, I haven't heard of lots of drugs, and new ones come on board all the time. I did a quick google search on them, looks like they are both more used in the U.K. There does seem to be a difference between what is used in U.K. and what is used in U.S.A. Maybe too things go by different names also.

Do you use these for migraines and do they help?

Sarah, trying to pretend I'm not getting a migraine today

Pizotifen (lowest dose daily since age 7), i was too young to recall what it did.

Age 12/13 put on Domperamol. Didn't work, at about age 15, put back on Pizotifen (highest dose daily) along with co-codamol- which was later upped to co-dydramol.

When i complained again i was taken off them al-together.

They won't presecribe me again although i don't know what the hell causes these things.

There are some good articles out there on possible migraine triggers, was just now looking over this one:

http://managingmigraines.msn.com/article.aspx?aid=31

I kept a headache diary for awhile to see if I could identify any triggers, cigarette smoke is definitely one for me.

Hi.

Hormonal changes have caused many of my migraines. I have noticed them to be cyclical in nature. Keeping a journal is invaluable to migraine sufferers.

Take good care!

YES!!!!! Hormone changes are I think my # 1 trigger for migraines..... if I get realyl emotional ( like crying) i get a mirgraine, right before my monthly cycle it is the worst.
I have noticed tha CIgarette smoke also triggers my mirgraines
