Maybe I can help you figure out what is going on, and we can figure out which mucsle group is the cause and work with it together? If that is even close to what is going on with your "hip" pain.
I am glad you got the right exercises. I was in PT for 6 weeks with no results so they put me on hold pending more tests

Well, no more weightlifting for me
I have a buldging disk in my back with an annular tear
Corizone shots and limited activities. The doc said running is ok
once I get the cortizone shots the hip pain will reslove so I can go back to running my regular miles.

I'm surprised the running is ok. Was this the GP or an orthopedist? My brother had a bulging disc and they told him to swim or walk, and to stop his running which was difficult as this was the love of his life. Back's are tricky, don't want to mess around with them, and just want you to be safe.

I walked today. It was a little slick from the snow and it being 20 degrees, but still went. I even managed to keep the dogs moving with me so there were fewer stops this time. It felt really good.

She said it was ok, but I spoke with her again this morning and now she says no running make up your mind already! lol

Glad you got some exercise in despite the cold

Sorry for the back issue news Skully

Let it heal and se where you are! For those of you who love to exercise, it is so hard now being able - doctors make badpatients and so do athlets make bad couch potatoes!

Here are some healing waves ~~~~~~~~~

I walked the dog just a few blocks, in the 6 degree cold! Now later on today.

i know what u mean i did 80 minutes on the treadmill but theres somethin about runnin outside thats just different rite now im just walkin really fast on the treadmill cuz its rite by the christmas tree & im afraid im gonna tip it over with all the bouncing also one of my favorite things is the pool swimmin underwater doin breast strokes well kind of like u see salamanders swimming i cant remember a time when i couldnt swim its second nature i like gettin in the shallow part & doin front handsprings with my 13 yr old girl of course i dont do these on plain ground but in the shallow pool water its fun cuz the water is like a natural safety mat & then like my girls a cheerleader so its a small town & the real workout is when they all wanna do stunts in the pool & im one of the lucky ones that gets to flip em. geez the ones that go up in the stunts are always the tiny ones but they sure dont feel so tiny when ur liftin em good ideas for upper body well pool for all over body & spendin time with kids cuz my 3 yr old is already into no room for laziness & weight gain with all this plus i like the aero clothes & sharing clothes with daughter

I went for a walk on the treadmill....ugh...not the same as running! But, it is something at least. I did light exercises with the resistance band...still, not the same as lifting weights. Well, I try to look on the bright side of things..at least I will get some toning done this way!

Good for you! It's so difficult to change routines, especially for things you enjoy. Your back however will thank you.

I didn't do anything yet today...I didn't go for my walk on the treadmill, too much going on this morning. I will walk for 45mins this afternoon. It is cold out but I can't stand the treadmill anymore so I am taking to the streets!

I did manage to go for a walk outside yesterday...It was a cold walk and the pup wasn't happy with me but we got our exercise. was about a 45min walk for about 3 miles...nice and slow pace. I think I will stick to the treadmill today!

Due to a genetic disposition towards heart disease and diabetes, and an inability to take statins (they poisoned my muscles, I have had to incorporate exercise into my daily routine in order to stay healthy. (I also have to watch my diet.) As I got older, I grew tired of gyms and was no longer able to play tennis due to chronic injuries. All I liked to do was being outdoors and walking. So, living in a big city, I decided to walk to work and back home each day. In all, I walk about 1.5 hours each workday, about 4 miles, weather permitting. It's tiring but I feel pretty good and my blood work shows I am healthy. (Provided, I watch my diet.)

Good for you Skully and 'Guy'!

Today I just finished walking my dog Jack .8 miles....the sun is shinning and it is beautiful but chilly - only in the 20's - but we both enjoyed the walk.

I still need to get started doing those leg exercises you told me about Skully. Just been busy getting ready for the holiday ahead.
Thanks for this!

I have to go for a cortizone shot this morning and I don't react well to them. I will be out for 3 days so no walking or anything for me. It usually takes me 3 days to recover for those awful shots! They are putting the shot right above my hip so that will make the leg useless for 3 days

Skully, sorry to hear you have such a bad reaction to steroid injections! When I was having my a few years ago for the hip pain I had, (7 in total over maybe 3 years) I got relief right away. But of course, my was just bursitis/tendonitis so not as serious as a disc problem! Good luck and hope you start recovery sooner than you think!

Thanks for this!

What I thought was "a shot" turned into 12!!!
They put 7 shots surrouding my hip and 5 in my lower back region. OMG!!!!!!!!!!! is all I can say. I am not sitting very well (they even got the nerves in the back of my hip...a.k.a my BUTT!) I am so sore today but managing just the same. As long as I don't lie on my left side or sit too long I am ok. Maybe after Christmas I will be able to return to walking.

I got a $25 gift certificate from the national running center because I am such a good customer lol. They are an online/catalog running company whose main facility is 30 miles from my house. They have awesome prices that's why I buy so much from them. You can check them out yourself if you would like http://www.nationalrunningcenter.com/

I go to see my neurologist tomorrow so hopefully that goes well. We will see. Best wishes to everyone and have good workouts!

Still a bit weak from being sick but I feel the need to swim, so I am going to try to go today. Please send positive, motivating vibes my way. I'm hoping there won't be any hecklers in the processes but still just need to do it. Wish me luck, let you know how it goes.

It is like a jelly donut. If you squish the top the jelly shoots out the side. That is what happens when a disc is bulged. It has pressure and the jelly center leaves the spine space it is confined in.

http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-bulging-disk.htm

I walked on my treadmill this morning, did 3 miles, feel a little better since the shots. I had a little aching afterwards but not too bad. I did some light exercises with the resistance band so my muscles got a little bit of a workout....sure wish I could actually lift weights

The neuro appointment was useless. I hate the neurologist I don't think she knows what to do with me. She keeps telling me to check with pain and rehabilitation specialist I go to. She won't prescribe any medication. She told me the buring in my feet is peripheral neuropathy due to hyperglycemia! My sugar read at 129 and the high end of normal was 120! She told me to follow a diabetics diet. What a stinking idiot! I DO NOT have hyperglycemia! I called my primary doctor who laughed and said that was not the case my sugar isn't high enough to have hyperglycemia. I think the nerve issues in my feet are due to the bulging disc. She just doesn't know what she is talking about. I am getting a new neurologist that's for sure!!!
