How is your nutrition? Do you eat before you run or after? The spots could be a combination of low nutrients in your system and the cold. I know if my blood sugar is low I start to "see" those color spots when I run. Plus I don't think running when it is -2°F out is that healthy lol. But, I do it anyway! Are you a freshman in college or high school?

Hi Skully,

Today I did my abdominal exercises and I can't believe how that and heating pad make me feel good. I have PT again in the morning and on Friday! It is really helping.

The P therapist is going to start me working on my back extention to improve that now that I'm starting to get better with abs.

I don't run outside, but Jack (the dog, rememberA?) and I enjoy walking and jogging a little bit on some of the outtings. I'm afraid of slipping on the ice! You are braver than me out there on the ice.
Thanks for this!

Great job trixielou! Keep going! And yes I have heard of an exercise hangover and if you try to do too much at once that will happen. If you take a day off it will be a little easier. If you are just starting out then 3 days a week is sufficient. I know it is tempting to do it every day, but you can actually end up hurting yourself. So don't be afraid to take a break!

I am running 3 days a week now because I am in physical therapy 3 days a week. I don't run on days I have PT because they are really stepping the PT up and I am working with weights on my legs a lot to stregthen my legs back up. I lost all my quads because of a nerve condition so they are building the muscle back up. Needless to say, I am worn out at the end of the hour!

Keep up the good work everyone!

I have decided I need to start exercising again. Two years ago I was at the peak of a relationship crisis(ready to burst) and I found support here. I think coming here providing a great deal of stress relief and diversion but I also lost interest in exercising. I've always been slim and even if I don't exercise I don't gain weight but the problem is I'm losing muscle/strength.

I know I need to start, but I know I'm starting at square one, which seems daunting. I know what's it feels like to be in top shape and strong - I usually weight lift and do aerobics on alternate days. I know / feel I need it, but I lack motivation. I used to have bi-ceps - not big, ugly ones but good muscle tone. I'm disappointed in myself for stopping and I now know what it feels like to feel weak. So I figured this would be a good place to start. Maybe someone can give the kick in the butt I need to get moving again. My goal is to live to a healthy 100 and I know I won't make it, unless I get moving again.

Thanks for the encouragement ((trixielou)). You're absolutely right -a person can be thin and totally out of shape and get clogged arteries. My deceased mother was 117lbs when she had a massive stroke and years before that, she had chronic high blood pressure. She was a smoker and drinker, so at least I don't have those bad habits. When she had the stroke I started watching those bad clogging fats - I'm not militant but I don't want to end up with her problems.

I'm busy this weekend, but on Monday I'm going to start and I hope this time I'll never stop. I can really feel the difference in my strength compared to 2 yrs ago. I don't go to a gym - I have my DVD's, treadmill downstairs with a nautical weight system and free weights. I like to work with free weights alot. I miss that feelings of being toned.

Sorry all, I have been pretty busy lately with doctors appointments and physical therapy. I haven't been doing to much other than my PT exercises which keep me pretty busy. I am not running at the moment. But I hope to get back to it next week. Hope all are doing well

If you would like Lynn, send me a PM telling me what you have at home as far as exercise equiment or if you have the ability to join a gym plus weight and exercise history and I can design a program to get you started

Hi skully

What a terrific thread to start! I haven't seen this thread before.

I am very "into" walking. It's always been a favorite thing of mine. I used to walk 6-7 miles a day for about 90 minutes. Since the weather in Mn is a little extreme it has been very difficult for me to continue this. My skin is especially sensitive (I get heat & cold urticaria), which leaves a couple of months that I actually can handle walking outside.

I'm a member of the local YMCA, which helps. But the passion for walking isn't the same anymore. I walk for 45 minutes, at a 8 -12 degree angle at 4 mph. But that's about as long as I can make myself stay on that treadmill. Any ideas??

I'm not a runner. Especially since I suffered a bulging disc in L4 & L5. I was advised by the doctor in physical therapy to not run, as it is too hard on the back.

I do lift weights, do crunches, and stretching. But the walking thing really bums me out! Any ideas to make my walks more enjoyable again?

Thank you ~

i had a full gym at an apartment complex i lived at that was open 24/7 so i would go reallly late at night hardly any one would be there. i used to go to had t.v. to watch and listen to while you were on the treadmill, which was wonderful except i didn't like looking up all the time it strained my neck and it wasn't alwasy something i wanted to watch. so i got the idea of listening to audio books, little short stories or chicken soup for the soul stories. so i didn't have to put a lot of effort trying to concentrate onthe story and keeping my speed up. (yes it is hard for me to do two things at once)
sometimes i would put my sunglasses on (i don't care what people thought) cause it would be so bright and put brown noise or rainfall, waterfall soundscape on and just pretend i was somewhere else and let my thoughts drift. it's hard to balance yourself while your eyes are closed i have tried that and doesn't work out for me.
Thanks for this!

so my weight seems to be going up. stress, meds, and age are all factors here i keep telling myself i'm not 20 anymore and eat junk and it doesn't effect me (reminds me of an adam sandler song) anyways so i started a weight tracker on webmd since i have a hard time being accountable to myself. i'm not blaming it all on the recent passing of my mom but i have had a lot of trouble with motivation since.

it's starting to effect me where i don't go out anymore because i feel uncomfortable in my own skin and my clothes literally do not fit me. (at least i have long skirts) i want to feel comfortable again. anywayz i am looking forward to this tracker and loggining in my food n such and exercise i can't do much because of my medical problems but everylittle bit counts
