I know the symptoms of the flu, and have been suffering through them since Saturday (so a little less than a week). However, I woke up this morning to COLD symptoms, on top of my flu symptoms.

Is this even possible? Or do I just have atypical symptomology and should just watch it?

My flu symptoms (or what I define as such) - Nausea, general muscle weakness, tiredness/fatigue, muscle aches and pains

Cold symptoms - Sore throat, stuffed up nose, and clogged up throat (with mucus)

Thanks.

My husband and I just went through this - so I would say that you have the FULL BLOWN FLU.... the infection has just decided to settle in your sinus cavity.

Take it easy.... by resting, drinking plenty of fluids, taking medicine for the cold & body aches and eat some good old oatmeal / soup / crackers (for upset stomach).

Hope you feel beter.....

Ewww... not the full blown flu. Flu/Cold related question... I guess that means bed rest on my reading week holiday from university next week.

Thanks for the advice. I'll be certain to follow it and hopefully I'll get better soon.

Thanks Rhapsody!!

A viral cold rarely lasts more than 10 days... if you don't improve soon, see your MD. Hope you feel better sooner than later Flu/Cold related question...

Hmm of course that's your option. I waited till I saw my MD on regular monthly schedule... and my problem became pneumonia. DOH! I really didn't think I was feeling THAT bad!

Hope you get well soon Flu/Cold related question...

Hi it could be many things. It could be you have a bacterial infection due to the flu weakening your system..It could be you have more than one virus...and if you have a compromised immune system ..like if you are diabetic or have some other chronic illness then it may take longer to get well and you will be more susceptible to secondary infections.

It may not hurt to see a doctor in case this has gone into a bacterial infection

Ummm... Scared now.

Sorry, I freak out a bit about medical related mumbo-jumbo, even with all my experience with the medical health field.

Thanks for the information though.

Canders,

From my experience the symptoms can change within the same bout of flu.

I'm suffering from a light case now myself. I believe it is light, because I had a flu shot this year.

I hope both of us are feeling better soon.

gross question but very important.........is the mucous that you are blowing out very yellow or green? if it is mostly clear, you're free of an infection of the sinuses. it's when it becomes colored that you know there is a real bug in there. okay????????? plenty of fluids, bed rest and a not so warm room. heat dries you out and keeps you down longer. xoxoxo pat

Hey,,,

Me and my bf had it, I had it for about 2 months!!! I just couldn't get rid of it, I had the EXACT stuff you described. It just finally went away.
And of course with my anxiety.. I thought for sure I was dying!! LOL The muscle fatigue and weakness is what scared me. On top of the dizziness!! (Because mine went to my sinuses and it was horrid!!)

But like everyone is saying just get lots of rest, and try and take care of yourself! Best wishes

HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER SOON Flu/Cold related question...

Thanks everyone for your advice and well wishes. Its greatly appreciated. Flu/Cold related question...

Just wanted to say that I think I'm pretty much over it. (Considering I slept for about 18 hours this Sat/Sun, I'd hope so!! Flu/Cold related question...)

All I've got left to beat is a sore throat, stuffy nose and a bit of achiness. (Not bad at all, just like a regular cold to me!!)

Thanks everyone!! Flu/Cold related question...

Its also important to remember that when you have the flu your immune system is so busy fighting it off and keeping you well that sometimes you can get a mild cold on top of it or other slight things like that. Its very common.

the last three weeks I have had a sore throat and a cough, which on saturday I woke up sweating with a fever of 103 and having trouble breathing.. I go in today, Im pretty sure I have pneumonia again though.

Blah.

Oh dear Rainbowzz, that sucks. Flu/Cold related question...

Just thought I might as well update everyone as to how I'm doing on this health front...

I went to the clinic on campus on Monday. Diagnosis, common cold and maybe blocked eustachian tubes (ears). Told to do the 2L of clear fluid, sleep, and gargle with salt water (ugh).

So I went and bought some Sudafed (a decongestant). Did not help the hacking cough, and didn't really make anything better.

And now I've developped laryngitis. *groan*

So I'm going back to the doctor next week to whine and complain. I'm not supposed to lose my voice (I think) with a COLD! (Oh, and I went and bought an expectorant - cough syrup to get rid of the mucus, ucky flavour!)

I know theres nothing to be done for my losing my voice, (just resting it!) but I still think the doctor was off her rocker.

I just want to get better...

And as my final update, the laryngitis is GONE!! I can finally talk, and the only thing I have to put up with now is a bit of hacking. Not pleasant, but I'll take it!! Flu/Cold related question...

Thanks everyone.
