I've had this niggling shoulder pain for the past 2 weeks after lifting some heavy equipment, i've done the hwole "rest, ice, compress elevation" thing but to no joy really, any thoughts ?
Avoiding the doc at the moment as i think he's just as mad as i am

Since its still painful after 2 weeks, I think you should tell your doctor...maybe get some Xrays. Make sure you keep it flexible - if you don't it will stiffen up. I had Frozen Shoulder twice and its extremely painful. I hope you feel better soon.

Did you try wearing a sling for a bit? That will force you to really not use it. Although you need to make sure to take it out and move it every once in awhile to avoid frozen shoulder.

Can you lift you are above your head? Or when you hold it straight out sideways, can you hold it level there for awhile? I tore part of my rotator cuff a year and a half ago and I couldn't do either of that. Although I think if you did that you would want to go to the doctor cuz it is pretty painful. I would suggest going though and figuring it out if its been a few weeks. Good Luck!

Did you massage the OTHER shoulder? like if you strain your right upper back, it will tighten the left side. so if you massage the left side, it will "release" the right side.

jaxter ~ yes I can do both of those, its more when i get to the extreme range of motion is when it kicks in.. and i should explain better, its like its between my shoulder and shoulder-blade on the right side ? o.O
and no not touched a sling... yet :s

Hankster ~ No I have not tried that.. i shall give that a whirl and see what happens..

some injuries take more than 2 weeks to heal. if the pain is severe then it should be examined by an MD. a common and painful shoulder injury is rotator cuff damage. correction sometimes requires surgery. since the pain has persisted for more than 2 weeks, please see an MD as soon as possible.

Had a shoulder strain/sprain & went to Dr after about 3 wks of pain.

Did ultrasound that showed no tears but he said would still take 6-8 more wks to heal. Also said to rest shoulder, no lifting, pulling, stretching ect.
Alternating heat & cold helped, (mostly heat for me).
Eventually got better but have been careful with it.

Best wishes on healing.
