I have a sunspot on the cheek of my face, it was darker pigmented then the rest of my skin, and flat, it has been there for about a year. I woke up and it had changed, it is red, dry, scaley, raised and is tender.

I am going to go to my gp and get it looked at hopefully on Monday, if I can get in that soon. But now I am obviously worried, and it is sort of itchy, I don't want to scratch at it. Hopefully it's nothing, I don't know I am kinda freaking out here.

Has anyone had something like this happen with sunspots? I tried looking at skin cancer sites, but that freaked me out more, and I started to examine every single mole on my body, and that is a lot.

Will a gp even know, should they send you to a dermatologist?

(((Anika))) I would definitely see your dr as soon as you can get in.

Anytime you have a mole, freckle or any kind of spot that makes a sudden change you should have it checked.
Around 2 yrs ago I had a facial biopsy done. Very simple & quick. They numb the area & take a pretty good slice & send you a letter in mail about a week later with results. Mine was neg. nothing to worry about. It was on my cheek & thought it'd leave a scar but didn't, you keep vaseline on it for about 2 wks. no bandaid tho.

Will be waiting to hear what doc says.

Yes, the GP is the doctor to see first. The GP will know if the skin lesion looks concerning and if necessary will recommend a specialist or biopsy. I have some gross looking lesions on my back and leg and my GP always reassures me--"those may look bad but they're harmless" and has never done a biopsy. Some lesions they can tell at a glance are benign. But a lesion that overnight goes through a big change is something to pay attention to! I'm glad you are seeing your doctor right away.

It is good you are noticing any changes to any moles or spots. As all have mentioned above, go into to see the doc to get it checked. They look at all three of these things to determine the safety of a mole or spot and is best checked by a physician.

The ABC's of the skin moles:
A-Asymetry
Symetrical (good) or if one half is equal in size to the other half is a suspect
B-Border
Border smooth (good) or if irregular/ragged/jagged/notched/scalloped/etc. shaped is a suspect
C-Color
Same color (good) or if there is more than one color is a suspect

Sorry, this cannot be. You have too much to worry about already.

Ugh & OMG, Anika. This truly is too much. It sounds though that by getting immediate attention you'll get the jump on whatever meanie is trying to move in on you.

So today is Tuesday & I'm doing a Bringing-Good-News-Dance till we hear from you ...

Ok the dr said he thinks it looks like it might be an infection ? He told me to put an antibiotic cream on it and that in two weeks if it isn't better then they will start with a biopsy. So I guess I wait and hope it goes away. Infection, I have doubts but I will hope he is right.

---might be an infection...
---an (as in "any ol'?") antibiotic cream...

Well, nuts, Anika, I'm not feeling much better.

It could certainly be an infection though. And the RIGHT antibiotic would fix you up straight away, like that! *snapping fingers^failing to snap, ^

I took a mole in to my doctor (that sounds weird) because it was changing. She said that the ones that change quickly are not the ones to worry about. That the cancer ones tend to change slowly over time. I hope that the reason that it is changing is infection and not something else. Mine ended up just being a inflammation in my system.

Overnight, it does not sound like a malignancy. Probably an infection or an irritation.

I hope you are okay.

I empathize with your concern.

Roadie, he said polysporin. I am religiously putting it on. I duuno might may may not. I didn't want to go to the walk in because they are always in a rush.

Well that is good to hear. That quick change might be positive. I'm just going to keep minding my mind.

My mom and sister have both had cancer. Cancer of the cervix mind you. But still freaks me out.

A rapid change could VERY well be a sign of infection, don't discount this so easily. Give the polysporin time to work and it does wonders with skin infections. You will know soon enough if it will affect it to know whether a biopsy is in order. Take it a moment at a time and deal with that IF and when it comes, as it may not. Could very well simply be an infection.

Will be keeping fingers crossed as well.
