Upon considerable thought..I am wondering if we just would not be better off with natl healthcare. I think it could be do able if done in a careful and innovative way. I, Fran
kly, don't see any other alternative. I just don't. During the 1980..I had a very unusual Dr. He was one of the best. He said I could pay what I could. When I got up to owing him 400.00 for back payments...he actually forgave the debt. One in a million. Truly. He always had time for me for talks in his office too. He was a devout Christian and family man. My Dr. Jeter. May God bless him. Very Controversial:Natl.health care in the U.S.

Wow Dottie...I hope they clone that wonderful Doctor, we need more of them that can put the patient ahead of profit... although many have the mind set to, its just the cost of running a practice and then there is the Malpractice Insurance..geez..no wonder we are loosing so many to early retirement..I lived over in Germany for quite a few years, and they had a wonderful Healthcare system, although I was surprised when I was told that they actually tipped Nurses and Hospital staff, which is great..but try that here and they would think you had some sort of brain infarction.. but I think a National healthcare system would be a great idea..the have and have nots margin is only widening..leaving many floundering..so many articles in the media about the cost of healthcare and how hospitals treat people without insurance differently, as far as their billing practices go. I would rather see the people that can afford it the least get the help they need even if that would cost me a little of my already strapped take home pay.

Hi ladies

Yes, the UK National Health Service is absolutely wonderful. Dentistry used to be free but now you have to pay a little towards it, but it's still free for children up to 16).
I am so surprised that the US (the richest country in the world) hasn't yet got to grips with it. We pay only about 11% of our salaries into it each month, for which we get total health care (visits to GPs, hospital treatment, operations, etc), plus at age 60/65 we get a State Pension (although they are discussing extending the retirement age as people are living so much longer - thanks for course to the thorough health-care we all have).

I think maybe it smacks too much of socialism (communism) for the US to embrace such a notion. They think it's a dirty word when in fact it's only taking care of people whatever their income.

I would like those in Canada to weigh in on this as they have National Health Care. I meet many ppl who come to the medical buildings I visit, when they are on vacation or visiting family, for "emergency" health care as they have to wait months in Canada. I've heard the story over and over. IDK.

I don't think it's the idea of socialism that keeps it out of the USA...but that we don't have that kind of control, as it's a democracy... and nothing happens the way we vote it in ! LOL We really have many socialistic programs...

Its true. We've got a nice system for those living in Canada, but access to doctors and professionals/specialists is a LONG WAIT.

We need more doctors, plain and simple. Any doctors out there want to come live here?? We've got cookies... *bribes with homemade cookies* Very Controversial:Natl.health care in the U.S.

Canders, how is the preventative medicine then? That's something USA only has in a small number of doctors... ok... I'll edit this post rather than make another... how is the ability to see a doctor so you stay well rather than have to wait till you're sick? Like, I want to have EKG or body scan to try and see what I have to work on so I don't get sick (not really but if??) would the system allow you to do that?

Hi Sky,

I'm not entirely sure of what you mean by "preventitive medicine". Did a dictionary search, and got more confused.

Can you explain it a bit more?
