this is getting me really frustrated. When I take my medications orally it has little effect, i've taken various antidepressants, the prozac im on has no effect at all, i tell my psychiatrist and she says we'll just switch around but that's not helping because there's NO effect. i started putting zyprexa under my tongue and it does have an effect but nothing like the effect it had 2 years....there are two things im thinking that this could be...
GI track is not working right, and minimal or no absorbation of meds. Also known as malabsorbation issues from sources. I've been talking with my doctor about this and it makes me frustrated because they tell me im worried too much over silly worry, and refuse to even investigate, i'm gonna have to force this issue hard over and over until I can get tests done. 2nd is that my body has a resistance with meds...or something in the brain is not traditionally working, has developed adaption. I don't know how to find the problem because people, doctors don't take me seriously and refer me to nuerotic fears of silly things. It's like walking around in a delrium state, and no one aknowades there is something wrong, saying you appear normal. That's what... please help about this issue, i know there's limited perspective of this but find something to at least be a fact of this |

Have you always been hard to medicate? I ask that because I have. I have to take more than the usual dose of EVERYTHING, including aspirin. In fact, I wake up on the operating table during surgeries. I've done this 3 times now. Two times they didn't know I was awake because I was laying face down, so they couldn't see my eyes, and it was VERY scary!! I couldn't move either, because they gave me the drug that paralyzes you for surgery -- they were working on my spine, so they didn't want me moving. Consequently I couldn't tell them I was awake! LOL
Anyway= they have to give me about 3-4 times the dose of normal people. And sometimes that doesn't even work. And I''m NOT a big woman. I only weigh 118lbs. ![]() So I was just wondering if you'd always been like this -- and if so, perhaps your doctor isn't used to this or hadn't seen it before and you may have to keep reminding him!! My doc forgets all the time, and i have to remind him when he starts writing Rx's for like 10mg -- and that wouldn't numb my big toe. I'm a chronic pain patient, and I have to take higher doses of medications due to this problem. Could this be the problem with you? I dont know what it's called and I don't even know if there's a name for it. ![]() But be proactive and tell your doc to sit down -- you HAVE to talk to him about an issue -- and MAKE him listen. They're always so hot to get out the door! Corral him before he does. I think he'll listen to you. Good luck and let us know what he says. Hugs, Lee

It is possible to build up a resistance to Prozac. It may be that your dosage needs to be increased or you should be switched from pill form to liquid form. It is common for the body to require increased doses of anti-depressants for long-term patients. Please see your prescribing MD and let them know what is going on. If necessary, change MDs.

You can build up tolerance. Also, people have different liver enzymes which makes some people really sensitive and some the other way around.
To check if the med is absorbed and not just killed off by the liver, you can make a blood test to see what level is in your blood. Your doc should have suggested that. If you have good levels, then the problem is not with liver or with absorption and you can take it from there. If you have low levels, you might need higher dosages than others. |
