I came down with an illness 5 days ago - sinus congestion, sore throat and mild coughing. Started getting lower left rib pain with coughing and movement - went to the doctor for Xrays and the doctor thinks its Pleurisy, but still waiting for the radiological report. Saw my family doctor yesterday and she could hear breathing noises. She said I could still get the Pneumonia vaccine and I did. The pain from this is magnified compared to a flu shot. I noticed last night in bed, I have tender lymph nodes about my collar bone.

After searching for info on this - its scared me because this can be serious - lymphoma. Now my anxiety is high and I feel scared I'm getting seriously ill. My question is - has anyone had painful lymph nodes in the collar bone. Wondering if this could be a symptom of the flu vaccine? I also have no energy and can't imagine living life like this - it reminds me to be grateful for good health. I hope I'm not right is thinking all this marriage stress will kill me.

Hi, Lynn. When you are given a vaccine shot of any kind it will include a weakened form of the virus. It is normal that the day after a shot you will feel mild effects including feeling tired and slightly sick. On top of that, you may already have the flu or pleurisy. So, you must rest and drink lots of fluids to lower the level of the virus in your system.

Lymphoma does not develop overnight. I am not an MD but the swelling could be a sign that your lymph system is fighting off the flu / pleurisy virus, as well as dealing with the pneumonia shot. Nevertheless, please inform your MD of the swelling and see what they say. Then, get back in bed and try to eat and drink normally (if not a little more to give your body energy to fight off whatever you have).

I hope you are feeling better soon.

Wow I am surprised she gave you a vaccine when you were already sick. But I would definitely wait a few weeks before I started worrying. It's probably from all that's going on now physically.

Thanks unhappyguy for reassuring me its probably not more serious - I don't feel as worried. Thanks also to Hankster for replying to both my threads. Thinking back I wish I would have waited but my doctor said as long as I don't have a fever it would be alright. Had no idea the arm would be more painful than the typical flu shot.

I also have some lymph tenderness in my armpit on the same side. Since this came on suddenly yesterday evening and is the same side as the shot....hopefully this is reaction to the shot or the illness I have ATM. I didn't even know there is lymph nodes above. Hopefully it will go away soon. I went to the drugstore and got some Oregano Oil - this is great for killing viruses and bacteria. Heard on the radio a few yrs ago, it great to stop sinus infections. Thanks again to both of you.

The lymph nodes can become enlarged with many kinds of infection even if it is a bronchial/lung infection especially if the system is overwhelmed fighting off the infection. I would call to let your physician know in the meantime of this new symptom so they are aware in case they think something should be done, such as a blood test to check on the infection or to ease your mind about the other thing.

When I had pleurisy, my armpit lymph nodes swelled as did the ones in my neck, so it may very well be the case that it is due to the infection. Focus on getting better and sending the biggest of well wishes your way!!! (((((Lynn))))

Thank you Fresia and unhappyguy for asking. The lymph nodes above the collarbone are gone down and not as painful. I'm starting to cough up mucus (sorry TMI) which I hope is a good sign.

I had no idea the pneumonia vaccine would be more painful than a flu vaccine. My arm is so sore I almost can't raise it over my head. I also have red area on my arm not too close to the shot. Usually they don't give shots if a person has a fever, but I really regret having it done when I was sick - I wasn't too sick that day. I don't know if this is a flu or this is the side affect of this lung problem. Usually I don't feel my age but my body aches. Overall I feel a little better and feel this lymph node swelling is from the shot, since its only one side.

Thanks ((Rose)) - I'm recovering and feeling a little better. I'm not worried about the lymph nodes anymore and think it was from the pneumonia shot. Honestly never knew that shot is worse than a flu shot. Had a very red painful upper arm. Think I jumped to the worst conclusions, out my fear of dying before my girls are adults. I never should have got the shot when I was already sick. If someone has a fever they won't give the shot.

Thanks Hankster - quite a few kids and adults are sick in my area. One school had 150 students out with sickness. The clinic said they've also seen some flu cases. I agree its early for this. My doctor said the pneumonia is a one time thing, so idk if there are different shots.
