I don't even know what to do now. It can take months to get a primary. The walk in clinic says it can be your primary care, according to my insurance.
What kind of primary care physician refuses to call in a refill for a beta blocker??? I'm so angry I feel like reporting the place for endangering my life. You aren't supposed to just stop taking the stuff, EVER because it can cause fatal heart arrhythmia if you just quit. I think they just are blackmailing me for that insurance payment. |

Is it worth trying again by seeing another doctor at the clinic? If the place can act as your PCP I don't see what their problem is. If your insurance says they will pay, can you pay upfront and sort it out later with your insurance? It's definitely important to keep taking your med. Is there any other doctor you see regularly (eg gynae, pdoc) who could write the prescription for you?

How long ago was your last in-person visit to the walk-in clinic? My primary, who is very reasonable, won't call in refills unless he sees me face to face at least once every six months. The local walk-in clinic insists on seeing you every 3 months, otherwise you're not considered a current patient. That's fairly normal practice.
Seeing that it's your blood pressure meds and you can't stop taking it because you're right about the risk of arrhythmia, maybe you'll have to bite the bullet and go in and let the clinic get the insurance payment because there's nothing more important than your life. Ask the doc if s/he'll give you five refills on the new prescription. That way, you can call the pharmacy when you need a refill and they won't need the doc's okay each time. That'll take you out six months. |

I just saw them in March. It does no good to say I need to come in to see if it's working, since I've been forced to go without it. Going to call n raise holy hell with supervisor, or see if my insurance takes the other walk in clinic in town. Hate to switch but this is nuts. Wish me luck. And thanks for the advice and kind words, who knew going without Bp meds makes a person feel bad?
