Okay. So everything I know about eggs is that they are good for you in moderation. But, that the body can ONLY process one per day, max. And too many eggs can have negative effects on chloresterol as you get older.
Now I'm reading FoodNews (yes this is part of work, keeping up to date with business / food developments) and here's some NEW research that promotes FREQUENT egg consumption amongst women: "EGG CONSUMPTION HELPS SHED POUNDS ACCORDING to a study just presented at the Experimental Biology 2007 meeting, eating eggs for breakfast as part of a reduced calorie diet helped women lose weight whilst maintaining high energy levels, reports just-food.com "While it's been well-established that foods such as eggs that contain the highest quality protein help people feel full longer, we were surprised at how definite these findings were," said Nikhil V. Dhurandhar, lead researcher and associate professor in the department of infection and obesity at Louisiana State University's Pennington Biomedical Research Centre. "The women who consumed eggs as part of their diet plan lost significantly more weight, had greater reductions in waist circumference and reported significantly higher energy levels," Dhurandhar commented. The study found that overweight women who ate two eggs for breakfast at least five days a week for eight weeks as part of a low-fat diet with a 1000-calorie reduction lost 65% more weight, had 83% greater reductions in waist circumference and reported greater improvements in energy levels than dieters who did not eat eggs." So - this study would tell me two eggs a day is fine? I like scrambled eggs a LOT and will make them at the weekend on super grainy low GI toast. But I feel like the guidelines are so mixed up on yet another food ... Anyone got opinions / info? I am interested ... hehe. |

There's so much conflicting information. I gave up on following a lot of the latest food news ages ago. Fat is bad, then fat is good. Carbs are good and then they're bad. Dairy is healthy, then dairy is bad. Fish is good, then fish is bad. Soy is good, then soy is bad... etc. A practitioner of Chinese medicine told me that blueberries would make my IBS worse, then a naturopath told me blueberries were the best thing for me... etc. At one point, I was reading so much about food safety and what's good and what's bad, I became paranoid about eating fruit because I was so worried about pesticides. I finally just had to relax a bit about all of it.
I love eggs. They're easy to prepare, they're filling and they're full of protein -- lots of energy. They're also easy on my touchy tummy. My levels of the bad cholesterol are very low, so my doc said the eggs aren't doing me any harm. In fact, they're good for me. She said eggs (yolks in particular) should be eaten in moderation by people with cholesterol problems, but they're good for most people with healthy cholesterol levels.

we don't know all that much about nutrition. a little birdie once told me that it was impossible to meet nutrition requirements while staying within the calorie intake guidelines without taking suppliments.
i say... so much worse for the 'nutrition requirements'. there are a lot of different guidelines for your RDI of various things. there is controversy basically. but surely people were healthy before suppliments were invented! though that being said availability of food can be tricky... in some places of third world countries to be sure... and in some places of developed western nations as well... |
