*******Contains a little bit of content of sexual abuse history*******

I am getting ready to go to my gastro intestinal doctor appt here. And I am a bit scared because of what tests he may order for the coming weeks. I have been sexually abused in my past as a child by my brother . So having anything go down my throat or in my hind end is a huge trigger for me. I will have to be heavily sedated to do this. This scares me because I have no control over the situation. It makes me just feel sick and panicy. And I hate having to explain to every new doctor that I go to about my situation if its needed. I wish I didnt have to do this. Off to GI Doctor Appt

I had a colonscope done in Nov 05. I would say if you have to have it done to make sure you tell them to put you completely out. I don't remember anything about the test. Only thing I remember was being wheeled into the room for the test and the nurse giving me the stuff to put me out. I had someone there with me in the recovery area when I woke up. You'll have to have someone with you anyways because they won't let you drive for that day. I hope your test go well.

Your anxiety is understandable. When I go to my gyn for necessary appointments I make sure to remind her that I have a history of abuse and that she please go very gentle and slow, and tell me about every step she takes. And I deep breathe as much as I can.
Best of luck with it. Would it help to have a friend with you so that he/she can reassure you that you are safe?

I understand your panic and anxiety. Can you call the DR office and explain the situation before you have to go for the appointment? Then you may avoid having to deal with the situation on the same day of the appointment. I hope the best for you SWEET. Try to hang in there. Take care. Soidhonia

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Been there and got an endoscopy set up for the 29th. This is so similar to the TEE i had done to dx my SVT. And I fought it going down. They had to keep giving me more sedative to get me calmed down. DANG IT!!!!!!! I HATE THIS!!!!!!!!! I am gonna be a friggin mess the next few weeks till this is overwith.. Well my cardiologists office just called. Asking how I was doing. They didnt send me home with an appt with him or with any meds . But they want to do a follow up to check to see how I was doing. I told them that I am still having some pain. And that I thought the nitro drip helped me in the hospital. So they are getting me in next week on Friday. My cardiologist though is out of the office till the end of June on vacation. Great.. ...

Beth, tell them you absolutely cannot have these tests done while awake. Insist on it. There is a wonderful anesthia they use now that causes you not to remember a thing. I actually told them I was a little cold and could I please have a blanket before they started. They told me the test was finished!

It's not like the old tests used to be. There is absolutely no reason for you to have to be awake for any test!

Stand up for yourself.

Hugs,

Jan

When I had my endoscopy and sigmoidoscopy, I was put completely out. Last thing I remember is my doc saying, "How are you doing?" I said, "Wow." Next thing I know, I woke up. Felt nothing, remembered nothing. How do you feel about explaining the situation to them so that you can be completely put out?
