My hands go numb and tingly a lot. It used to happen every once in a while when I was driving, but now its a few times a day. It usually happens when I'm driving, playing guitar, talking/texting on the phone, or typing. When they get all tingly and numb, it also feels like I can't use them or I can't grip anything.

Anyone know whats going on? I am going to the doctor in a week, but I am just curious as to what some of you think it is. I just assumed it was nothing, but now that its happening so often, I feel like it could be something wrong.

Sounds like nerve damage or some kind of neuropathy. If it's a trapped nerve or something, it can be fixed surgically. Neuropathy you just have to learn to live with. hands

Candy posted what I was going to say, but you can do exercises to try to keep all the strength you can.

It also might be carpal tunnel syndrome. That can usually be fixed.

There are splints you can wear, which are called "%#@&#! up wrist splints". They hold your wrists in the position they need to be in to take the pressure of the ligaments which aren't working right. Drs usually want to try that before they operate.

Hugs,

Jan

I get numb and tingly hands at night - my fingers go quite red and hot aswell. I have a habit of sleeping with clenched fists. I have never been able to sleep with splints on because I take them off in my sleep.

Good luck at the doc's!

Sabrina, ask your Dr. to see if you have nueralgia in your hands. There are medications that can help if that's the case. I have it in my feet, ankles, hands and wrists.

Hugs,

Jan

PS.

If anyone needs to know the actual name of the hand splints just send me a pm. It didn't occur to me that the filter would not allow the wording for them. hands

In my experience, anyway, the cheap splints don't really work. I didn't realize it till I got one from a hand surgeon and discovered the difference. See if you can get one from a dr., maybe?

You need the Dr. to write a presecription and you need to go to an orthodist. That is a person who creates braces so people can walk, along with a host of other things.

It will say something like "Smith & Jones" Orthopedic Co.

There is a huge difference in the braces and appliances from a real orthopedic place and those that are sold in stores.

I agree with January on the quality and support from the professional braces and supports. The ones from the store OTC just don't have the right support, nor enough of it. I hate having to wear my splints and braces so much, but when I don't, or when I take them off for PT stretching, it's certainly an AHHHH! When the PT put them back onto me!

Yes, but not due to my fisting or clenching my hands... due to neuropathies instead. This problem you have can become much worse. Please take care of it now, treat it now... this condition and what you do in response to the numbness or pain, can move up to your elbow, and even to the shoulder. hands
