I have a problem, I never really feel hungry, and I never really feel full, although I do eat when I do feel my superficial hunger. I still do eat with some enthusiasm, but it's as if I'm not quite connected to my my own sense of hunger, or such.. I've been through years of perceived strife, an inner kerfuffle or halfwaycatastrophe if you will. Eh, whatever, not in a good explainification mode this moment.... But anyway, still, CAN I FIX THIS?

Hello speedshoes: Hm-m-m-m... I don't know about this. Personally, I'm always hungry! I watch my weight very closely & keep myself at the low end of the normal BMI range for my height & gender. This means that I can't eat anywhere near what I could consume if I would allow myself to. As a result, I'm always hungry. I have taught myself to ignore this. I weigh myself every day, & eat in accordance with where the scale tells me I'm at. If I'm at a good weight, I know I can eat a bit more. If I've put on a pound, I cut back.
Might your condition have some sort of physiological basis, as opposed to a psychological one? Whether this is something that can, or should, be treated is something I do not know. Perhaps there will be some other members, here on PC, that have encountered similar difficulties who will share their experiences. My best wishes to you... ![]() ![]()

What a wonderful reply.
Huh. Regarding psychological versus physiological, I suppose there is an overlap?, in the sense of "your mind makes it real." Why isn't snyone working in the overlap field anymore? Where are the one who "get it."? Quote:
This is my point... WHO DOES KNOW. (And I guess they may come to a harmful conclusion too.) It FEELS like a lot of the "art" to healing has become more rare... at least in Norway... I hope others chime in too. |

I feel the same way - well half the same way. I never feel hungry, but make myself eat. I'm battling eating enough calories per day by tracking them with an app on my phone and I always come up short. So I looked up high calorie foods on Google yesterday and learned peanut butter has a lot of calories so I added it to some meals. Anyway, I wish you luck in finding the source of your un-hunger.

What does your medical doctor say about your weight? Do you have a normal weight for your age and size? Also, do blood tests indicate that you are getting sufficient vitamins and minerals? In short, if your bill of health is good then it just may be that you are on the low side of enjoying eating which, quite frankly, is probably normal.
Unfortunately, being part Italian, I was raised with the axiom "to eat well is to live well" (or something like that!). Family gatherings meant it was time to eat! This was fine when I was a child but now that I am approaching senior citizen-hood, it's a problem as it causes weight gain that I am constantly fighting. Sometimes eating more is not a source of happiness. The one thing that concerns me is your description of hunger as "superficial." Perhaps the key to enjoying food more would be not what you eat or the quantity of food that you eat but, rather, whether you are eating alone or eating while enjoying the company of others. For many, eating is a social / family thing in addition to required nourishment. Is loneliness an issue? Is dining friends / family what is missing from your diet? Would having company give more purpose to dining? |

I'm similar.. I think it can psychologically be caused from a number of things (for me).. Anxiety, depression, dissociation (where there really is a disconnect between my physical feelings and signals to my brain). Generally I try to eat what I can as soon as I feel hungry, and that's really the best I can do. I try to eat something like cake when I can! I just try to listen to those signals when they come through
