So, Sunday morning I woke up with a big fat swollen upper lip. DH and I laughed about it, I asked him if he punched me in the mouth. He said no, but if he had he would like to remember it so at least he could feel bad about it!

I got up and walked around, and it got worse so he drove me to urgent care. While I was waiting to be seen the roof of my mouth swelled up! I went and told them and they rushed me back and gave me a shot of steroid and antihistamine. That took care of it over the next few hours.

I had made salmon for dinner the night before and didn't use anything out of the ordinary ingredients wise. The doctor said it had to be the salmon. We ate dinner late because of the tornado warnings we were having. I didn't want to start cooking in the middle of a tornado watch! So we ate dinner around 9pm and went to bed shortly thereafter. It seems like the reaction was slowed because I was lying still/sleeping but as soon as I got up and around it got worse.

So, now I have to get an epi pen to carry with me. I love seafood! I don't know how I am going to deal with not eating salmon or other fish! I am also allergic to avocado, which is fine cause it isn't everywhere, and I don't like it anyways!

Anyone else with a salmon/fish allergy?

My brother developed an allergy to salmon after eating it frequently later in life, probably grilled.

I'm allergic to fish and shellfish, very, very allergic. I go into anaphylactic shock within a couple minutes if my food is even cross contaminated. The AAAAI (American Asthma, Allergy and Immunology Association) has some really good educational links on their website that give you more info about what other foods to watch out for, what condiments have your allergen, that kind of thing.
Good luck. I'm sorry that happened.
Thanks for this!

The doctor has given me an epi pen to carry with me and I am having some allergy testing done at the end of the month to see where I am.

Thanks!

I have an onion allergy. Makes life hell. Food allergies are hell. My sulphur allergy and onion allergy are hand in hand. I am a nightmare for chain restaurants where i have to ask to have them clean grills and surfaces and utensils to avoid cross contamination. I generally just dont bother eating out. My son is allergic to shellfish but not plain fish. Remember your epipen is good for 6 -12 months max then you need a new one even if the one you have is unused.
Thanks for this!
