K, the long and short of it...I had a large cavity in my eye tooth 2 years ago, couldn't afford to have it filled, 1 year ago they said it needed a root canal, certainly couldn't afford that...March, this year, the tooth chipped...2 months ago, the tooth broke off to the gum....this past Friday until present...excruciating sharp pain from the gum up the left side of my face, even behind my eye. I only have Medicare which doesn't have dental insurance. A friend offered to pay for an emergency visit, I'm going Thursday. Since Friday, I have been using alot of Orajel..bought my 2nd tube today. I just looked at the tube and it says use up to 4 times daily. Well, I have been applying it every 1/2 hour. If something was going to happen, it probably already would have, right???????

I can just picture the death certificate now....

tc,
Dee

I don't know if it could do any damage - I haven't heard of that and my ex-husband use to have tooth problems and used oragel. He also use to rinse his mouth out with brandy and that would help numb it.

If you could get to the ER today it would be better. It sounds like you have a pretty bad infection and you don't want to let that go.

I had a bad tooth not to long ago to. I used a lot of orajel. Peroxide helped me. Just rinse your mouth with it. Also thoes rapid release tylenol seemed to work well. (I alternated motrin and tylenol every four hours) but I would check with your doc.

Unfortunately, I had the same problem before and used Orajel and all that kind of stuff in excess either. The best is, as everyone else mentioned, get help ASAP, and check with your doc between now and then...

Best wishes, when they hurt, teeth hurt bad...

Thank you all...Just 13 hours until the dentist visit. If he even thinks of touching my tooth with the pointy metal thing or tapping on it, I will scream!!!!!!!

I tried Tylenol, Bayer, Advil, Motrin. But the Excedrin worked best. I took one more than they said, but I don't think that will hurt...

I'll update you all tomorrow after my visit!!

hugs,
Dee

I think the reason they might say not to use it more often is that IF YOU NEED to use it more you need to see the DDS!?

We used to use it (in the 70s) on babie's gums for teething... Too much Orajel?

Have you tried using a tea bag (wet) on your tooth area? The tanin can help with pain too. Too much Orajel? TC
