I was wondering if anyone has experience with tick bites and possible Lyme disease?

Last week I had this mosquito bite (at least that's what I think/thought it was), and after a few days it went from average mosquito bite to a big red circle, like an allergic reaction or something. Then 4 or 5 days ago the center of the red spot became a red-purple bruise (a bit like this but with less defined edges, it did look more like your general bruise: https://edc2.healthtap.com/ht-stagin...peg?1386641491 ) and I started to put some cortisone creme on it. I went to see a a doctor because I became worried that it might be a tick bite (even though I didn't see one, and initially it looked and felt like a normal mosquito bite) and it didn't really hurt like a bruise does when you push you finger on it. The doctor said that it looks like a bruise and that she didn't think it was a tick bite since it doesn't have that typical white and red circle around it. She told me to keep putting the cortisone creme on it and prescribed another creme against bruises. She said keep an eye on it and see if it gets better or not.

Today the bruise in the middle of the red spot is mostly gone and is more pale and reddish again like the rest of the red spot. But nevertheless the red spot is still there (a bit like this but then redder: http://www.skinsight.com/images/dx/w...e_44250_lg.jpg ). The bite itself isn't visible anymore like it was initially. It's also not swollen or anything like I've had with reaction to a mosquito bite once. I'm kind of worried that it still might be a tick bite or something since the redness doesn't really go away and I read that a tick bite doesn't always look like the typical bite with the circle around it I'm going to see a doctor again next week if it doesn't go away, but I'm scared that if it goes away and it was a tick bite anyway that I might get Lyme disease.

I don't know if I'm misremembering, but I think a circle like that is the reaction to a spider bite.

I regularly get circular whitish bites, and I think they're spider bites. I'm hardly ever outside to pick up a tick. It freaks me out to know those things are biting me while I sleep.
Thanks for this!

I do go outside sometimes, I jog in the woods a few times a week, but I'm pretty sure I would've noticed a tick latching itself onto my knee. It might be a spider, but the chance is small I think since where I live we don't really have venomous spiders or spiders that leave a serious mark. I've never even heard someone say they've been bitten by a spider. I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to go after me though, I kill every spider I come across in my house haha
Thanks for this!

Hahaha! I wish I could hire you to get rid of my spiders here. I don't know if they're venomous, all they do is the bite area allergic reaction, I think. It's one thing in favor of my poor vision, because I don't see them! Lol.

Hi Again, There are pictures here http://www.m.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides...w-lyme-disease

It might not be a Lyme tick, maybe you got a different kind of tick's bite.

In any case, you should go to your doctor or a dermatologist. I hope it's not Lyme.
Thanks for this!

If you are female you need to be careful. I have yet to see many women who get the typical bulls eye rash. They often get no rash or another type of rash. If you feel oddly dizzy, then you should go straight back to the doctor and get antibiotics.
Thanks for this!

Yeah, I'll probably go back tomorrow or something because the red spot doesn't go away, no matter how much cortisone creme I put on it. Sometimes it's red and when it's hot or I walk around it turns red-purplish again. It's weird.

Let us know what your doctor says, keeping my fingers crossed that it's not Lyme.
Thanks for this!

So I just went to get it checked out by my regular GP (since the other doctor said to keep an eye on it and it didn't fade) and he says that it's a big dark bruise because the mosquito hit or hurt a blood vessel, which they normally don't. It takes a while to fade away he says and apparently it doesn't hurt because you don't hurt any tissue like you do when you bump into something. So thankfully no tick bite or Lyme. But thanks for all your replies, I appreciate it!

That's great news! Thank you for letting us know! It makes sense that a bug bite on a vein, etc, would cause a bruise like that.
Thanks for this!

Haha yeah, it looks ridiculous. Every time I see a friend or family member they're like "What in the world do you have on your knee?" It's unlike any bruise I've ever had.
Thanks for this!
