<font color="#000088">I've had Degenerative Disk Disease in my Lumbar Spine and Sciatica for many years, and it's extremely painful.I have to be on pain management with pain medication, and mustle relaxants just to be able to move each day. If I don't take them, then I can barely even move my back at all without it causing severe pain, and sharp pain that shoots down the back of my legs, and sometimes up my spine and causes headaches quite often. My Pelvic Bone is also subluxated,so if I sleep on it wrong,my hip will be really sore for a few days, whichever side I slept on wrong. I end up having to put a pillow under that side when I sit,and sit kindof sideways. It's really hard,I have to sleep with a pillow between my legs to keep it from being thrown out in my sleep. Does anyone else have this condition or the disk disease, and have any suggestions on how to sleep without waking up in so much pain every morning? When I get up,I have to sit for awhile after taking my pain meds.,and mustle relaxants, and wait for them to start kicking in,before I can even start my day, because of how severe the pain is when I wake up in the morning. I just can't find a comfortable position to sleep in at night,I toss and turn all night, and wake up about 3 times throughout the night! Any suggestions?</font>

<font color="#000088">I've heard those are really good beds for spinal injuries, and people with any type of back problems. But I can't afford one, they're too expensive for my tight budget. I'm on disability, and I barely scrape by with what I do get each month. But it was a good suggestion though, thanks EJ!Degenerative Disk Disease in Lumbar Spine & Sciatica!

I have degenerative disc disease and also herniated discs at levels L4 and L5 (the two lowest in the lumbar section). I can definitely relate to your pain. I take daily pain medication and muscle relaxants too and I also enjoy swimming for exercise. I sleep with a large body pillow. Part goes between my knees and i wrap my arms around the top part. Since I've had it I find it almost impossible to sleep without it.

Justice,

OverStock.com has 4 inch thick foam mattresses. I have arthritis to the point I can't sleep on a regular bed. I am amazed at how much my pain level has gone down since I got the mattress. I hope so much you can get one.

Hugs,

Jan

I have the same problem. I've tried the foam. I've tried temperpedic.

I'm better off if I sleep propped up, almost sitting, in my comfy chair in the family room. Then when I wake up, I'm tired enough that I can go to bed for a few hours.

Sry justice ...it's an awful thing. I also have degenerative disk disease ...I've herniated many times, but I also have a neurofibroma tumor in my lower left nerve root that basically squishes the siactic nerve and my whole left leg is damaged.

I've learned to deal with that tho ... I have a temperpedic bed cuz my dad bought it for me 3 years ago.

What helps me most is to sort of throw my whole leg and part of my tummy on that pillow when I'm sleeping.

The one thing that makes degenerative disk disease worse is weight ...especially in the tummy area.

I hope you're feeling better.

<font color="#000088">Thanks guys,I have 4 ruptured disks in my lumbar spine to that never healed right.I was stubborn, and tried to go weight lifting before my spinal injury healed from my car accident enough to do it safely without causing further damage, and there went 4 disks. I was just so active those days, and wanted to get back to my weight lifting, and I just didn't think of the damage it could do. But I'm sure paying for it now. I do sleep with a lot of pillows,I'll have to see if I can afford one of those foam mattresses, and see about getting either more pillows,or see if I can afford one of those bigger body pillows! Thank you all for your input and support in this,I really need some good sleep, without waking up in so much pain to where I can barely even get up.Degenerative Disk Disease in Lumbar Spine & Sciatica! walmart carries the big body pillows for around 8 or 10 bucks. I have one and have to use it to sleep.

FYI the body pillow I use is called the Comfort U. It comes in two sizes. I have the larger size which comes with a removable cover for about $120.

<font color="#000088">Well thanks for the info on the body pillows. I can definately afford the Walmart ones, but the $120. Comfort U
is way out of my price range. But it's good to know what it's called so if I ever can afford something at that price,at least now I know what it's called. So Thank you both for the information. I'll be able to get the Walmart one in about 2 weeks, when I make my usual trip for the month of August. Thanks again! <font color="#000088">Well, yesterday I was able to get one of those Body Pillows from Wal-Mart! I looked in the Wal-Mart add, and they just happened to be on sale for $8.88! Hooray!! And I got it just in time for a night that I really needed the extra support to!Degenerative Disk Disease in Lumbar Spine & Sciatica!
Right as I was finishing putting my groceries away,my legs gave out on me, and I fell and hit the kitchen floor really hard, and my head fell back and slammed against the cupboard under the kitchen sink! I ended up with a slight concussion, bruised my tailbone, and it really hurt my back! Just my luck!Degenerative Disk Disease in Lumbar Spine & Sciatica!
But when I slept with that pillow, it really did help with the pain in my back while I slept, and I actually was able to sleep in until 11AM! And my back was sore, mostly from the fall I think, but not as sore as it usually is when I wake up in the morning! That pillow really made a difference! I love it!Degenerative Disk Disease in Lumbar Spine & Sciatica!
Thanks for recommending it to me, it really helped! Degenerative Disk Disease in Lumbar Spine & Sciatica! Degenerative Disk Disease in Lumbar Spine & Sciatica!Degenerative Disk Disease in Lumbar Spine & Sciatica!Degenerative Disk Disease in Lumbar Spine & Sciatica!

<font color="#000088">Yeah that pillow really helps me sleep throughout the entire night! But the fall really did hurt my back pretty bad, it took a day, and then today for the real pain to start kicking in from the fall, and it definately did some damage in my lower back. Even with my pain medication, I can still feel a lot of pain in my Lumbar Spine!
