Hello everyone.
I'm so glad that I stumbled across this forum. I have DDD. I was diagnosed with it February of this year. I was also diagnosed with mild scoliosis about 12 years ago. I own and operate a small residential & commercial cleaning business, which I had to quit the physical labor part of the business upon Doctors orders, back in February. My MRI shows that I have 2 buldging disks, and nerve descending. I have severe pain most of the time. I am 48 years old. Since I quit the labor side of my business, the back pain seems to have decreased due to less amount of stress on my back & spine. But intimacy with my husband is far and few in between. I'm afraid to be hurt. Once the buldging disks hit my exposed nerves, the pain is intense. I'm afraid that this disease is making my marriage suffer. I love my husband very much. Even though he says that he understands, I also know that he is a man with needs. I don't want him to stray because I have a difficult time with intimacy due to my back pain. Do any of you understand what I am going through? Do any of you have this same problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

I know what you are going thru. I have DDD and 3 torn disk. There are different positions you can use together that doesn't put so much pressure on your back. I will try to find something on this for you. pm if you want

That would be great Bee! Thank you! It's just very frustrating for me. So I know how much more frustrating it is for my husband. This disease has changed both of our lives. I use to be very physical. But now, even when my husband comes home and hugs me, I cringe a bit, because it often sends pain down my lower back. He has a habit even after 21 years, of smacking me on my behind. Even that is painful now. But he forgets constantly. And I hate telling him all of the time to treat me very delicately. Any more info on intimacy with this type of disease would be welcomed. Merry Christmas! Degenerative Disk Disease. Anyone else? Advice?)

I know exactly what you are going through. I have 7 herniated discs in my neck and back and also have DDD. I also have Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis. I am 52. My spine problems started eight years ago at which time I had to quit my job.
My pdoc has me on several strong pain meds and so that helps tremendously. Did the doc prescribe you anything for pain??
I will let Bebop take the other question. We found ways to get around the pain.
Wishing you good luck,
Linda

i've had disc probs since 1977 i'm 51 now --thats a long time -my pain goes through different phases although the pain is always there and certain things make it worse i think unconsciously i avoid certain things that make it worse pain wise i avoid meds as i feel when the pain is masked i do stuff i shouldn't and then its worse than before when the meds wear off, there are times though when the pain is too bad i have to take meds my back is getting worse but then so is lots of other parts of me i don't work at the mo because of my back and depression but boy would i like to be well and work like i used to i try to apply the 3 a's to my situation accept adjust adapt easier said than done my back over the years has gone from being sort of ok to terrible bit like life, for me anyway hope you learn to live with it and hopefully it will improve
