I've been to walk-in clinics twice this week. First put on noroxim, but I'm on prednisone for siatic nerve pain now as of last night. Hearing the doctors tell me they couldn't fix the inflammation in my back felt like a death sentence. I'm a senior, and I already can't get out of bed half the time. I have little to no immediate family support, and friends don't understand most of the time. Doctors refuse to give muscle relaxors or narcotics, so I am in constant pain. I hurt so bad on bad days, that I can't do anything but cry.
I'm so depressed, knowing things will just go downhill, and the pain will never stop. This is not a life I want. I'm so scared I'll give up.

Any advice on how to cope with this?

Hi, Secretaura101, and welcome to Psych Central! I'm so sorry you're struggling with pain. Can you go to a regular doctor instead of a walk-in clinic? Maybe he/she will work with you more.

I do take Tramadol and Vicodin for my pain, prescribed by a pain doctor. I've also had cortisone shots. Let's hope the prednisone will help. I am also a senior--62.

We do have support here for folks like us with pain. I find it helpful to "talk" to people who do understand. Here are two forums you might find helpful: https://forums.psychcentral.com/chronic-pain-support/ and https://forums.psychcentral.com/groups/pain-back.html.

And also: https://forums.psychcentral.com/seniors-lounge/.

Again, welcome! Make yourself at home. I hope you feel better soon.

There must be a doctor out there that will help you! I agree with Travelinglady that a walk-in clinic is not the best place to go. Perhaps a doctor who specializes in osteopathic medicine would be most able to help?

Secretaura101--What you are dealing with sounds terrible. Physical disabilities like these are so depressing. Don't accept your suffering. I have heard of people with back pain have procedures such as fusing some of their vertebra together as a last resort. Of course, this is only done after other things are tried. When my back goes out (not as serious as what you are dealing with), it heals in a couple weeks so perhaps yours will get better with time. I hope so. Hang in there!

Hello and welcome to PC. Please skip the walk in clinic and see an individual doctor. You can be helped. There are even pain management clinics. I'm sorry you are suffering so.
