Had my physical on Monday. My blood sugar and a1c has been a little high over the last three years. Thought for sure I was going to have to go on medication this year, but I lost 10 lbs- still way over weight, however I have been doing strength training over the last 3.5 months at home. Only 6 exercises, but my glucose was 94 and my a1c was normal also, estimated daily glucose was 122, but to be honest I have eaten sweets when I felt like it for the most part. I feel like I have some hope here - estimated glucose was 140 @ my last physical 15 months ago.

I went to weight management again last Monday 9th April,I hadn't been for two weeks and it had also been Easter holidays.Well I gained 6kg over those two weeks, the leader asked me to take in my food diary next week so he can see what I eat and give me some tips.I know where I went wrong,I ate a whole caramel and chocolate cake,a chocolate eclair with creme, a caramel flapjack, muffins, and drank juices and lots of packets of crisps. So if i don't want to gain weight it is best not to eat all that junk. This week I am being good and avoiding all that rubbish and I am going to ban them permanently from my diet.Next weight management class April 16th.I will report back after that.

Having my benefits assessment last thursday has worn me out and caused me severe depression,I won't have the strength to go to weight class on Monday 23rd.But I will go on 30th April....my weight isn't coming down and my blood sugars are too high they are so high they are going through the roof.I am anxious worried and stressed due to having to go through this claim for Personal Independence Payments...it is a horrendous process and I feel that I am ill and the system wants to bring me down to zero.

I still want to get healthy so want to continue losing weight and trying to get my blood sugars down...maybe after I have fully recovered from the stress of this week I can get back on track?

Things went wrong with my diet after I stopped weight management and all the anxiety over benefits assessments.I started drinking pepsi for about three months. My diabetic test for bloods came back too high and my kidney results are abnormal.I am urinating less and sweating a lot,my body muscles ache and I feel bloated and swollen...am I in kidney failure?I am seeing the diabetic nurse tomorrow.Does anyone here recognise my symptoms and can tell me what is going on with my kidneys,I have the following results....

Serum lipid levels;RENAL + LIVER;GFR calculated abbreviated MDRD;Renal function tests Report, Abnormal, Need to speak to doctor, Other (review booked)

Coded entry GFR calculated abbreviated MDRD
Coded entry Serum globulin level 28 g/L [20 - 42]
Coded entry Serum creatinine level 48 umol/L [49 - 90]
Coded entry Serum cholesterol/HDL ratio 4.9 mmol/mmol
Coded entry Serum triglyceride levels 8.2 mmol/L
Coded entry Serum HDL cholesterol level 1.5 mmol/L

From the elevated readings, and what you say about your weight, i would say liver, not kidney? My dr tells me i have fatty liver. Its also called NASH or NAFLD. Lots of info about it on the internet. Basically says to lose weight, like thanks duh.

I have high blood sugar but I’m not diabetic. I’ve been eating a lot of sugar today and every time I stand up I feel like passing out. Can eating a lot of sugar do that to you?
Thanks for this!

Eating a lot of sugar can make you feel very ill.Bozdickens I am afraid if you have high blood sugars then you are indeed a diabetic. You must see a doctor about blood sugar control and you must stop eating large quantities of sugar.Sugar is a poison,it can damage your kidneys, your eyesight and lead to amputations. It is really serious and you need to change your habits.

i have been avoiding this Forum because i don't believe in 'control'. i'm a control freak, and adding my diet to the list is a no-brainer.... one of the things i believe we do to sabotage ourselves, is add the word "control" to a task. i manage. i work. i Intend.... anyway, i would like to see this particular thread moved to the Diabetes group of threads in Disabilities and Chronic Diseases, since weight management is so very important to people with Diabetes.
thanks
Gus

I had an A1C. I guess my blood sugar is high but not high enough to be considered diabetic. But yeah it’s probably going to eventually happen. My dad died from diabetes. He had poor eyesight and was in kidney failure. It attacked all his organs including his heart. my mom was diagnosed 2 years ago. I’m basically a normal weight. Losing 81 pounds hasn’t lowered it. Eating right is the step in the right direction, but so far nothing has helped to lower it.

what i find very 'curious', odd really, is that so many different physiologies respond differently to so many things... it's like we all believe that everyone is like ME, but in reality, very few are... i find myself guilty of this: recommending what works for me to everyone like it's "The Truth"...

really, in everyday speech and THOUGHT, i serves us well to try to remember that we don't know what is going on with others,,, especially people we barely know...

there is this thing called 'the Bell Curve', (because it's shaped like a bell); that charts statistically the responses of at least 1000 'randomly chosen' people. what one finds is that "the NORM" is only 60% of people, about 60% of the time~! that means that about 40% of people will not be predictable at least 40% of the time~!!!

as far as the placebo effect goes, the most recent studies have revealed that it is effective about 30% of the time; whereas 'clinical trial tested' drugs are effective about 33% of the time... i'm sure i should be posting links to validate my statements, but if you really care, those are not hard to find. the Huffington Post, and the Harvard Journal (if i remember right) have some very interesting statistical data in them.... (like "Medical Malfeasance (wrong-doing) is the 3rd leading cause of death in the USA.)

i think probably the best bet is to try to discover plainly what we are experiencing and share that in the hope that it will offer a point of exploration to others. using sentences that expound the "I" "ME" "MYSELF" point of view is a good way to remember that we are all so different that it's a wonder we even understand each other at all~

There is a new medication for diabetes here in the UK,the nurse suggested I might try it.I don't know the name of it,but it works by eliminating sugar from the body via the bladder every time you pee the sugar comes out with the urine. So you pee more often.I think it is called Dapagliflozin tablets (Forxiga). Or there is another similar one called
canagliflozin (Invokana® .I googled them they have side effects like thrush and urine infections and there is a possibility of bladder cancer, they are new drugs so long term effects are unknown.Does anyone have any information about these two medicines to share with me?Has anyone here tried it and do you know of any side effects? It may be the only medical option left to me cos Victoza(liraglutide) the alternative injectible to insulin causes thyroid cancer so no way I am having that treatment.

The good news is I kept off the two stone that I lost. The bad news I haven't lost anymore yet.I am starting a new diet class tomorrow 10.15am.I am also going to be doing exercise, weight lifting and yoga every day from today on.

I was good today,I made an online shopping list, first of all I ordered muffins, doughnuts and other white flour goods then I went back over the goods and removed all the bad stuff,so am endeavoring not to eat forbidden foods.

I want to lose weight and get healthy and also I don't want to lose my eyesight.I am having eye tests for retinopathy twice a year now.

Hopefully the diet will go well and my blood sugar readings will come down.I have got to get the readings down to single figures from 23mmol/L.
