best thing to do is to take her to the e.r., although i'm sure you and your sis don't want to go there. i know you must be tired of all the medical stuff. maybe the docs there (or the nurses) can tell you of other ways to unclog a picc line. it's worth a try in asking them, so that you'll know what to do the next time it happens. tc.

I too would suggest the ER.

My husband had IV antibiotics 3 times a day for about 3 months due to an infection.

He did everything himself once he got out of the hospital and was actually quite good for someone who fainted looking at his dental x-rays PIC LINE Help Please.

Once they set you up with the pic line and the medication, did they give you anybody to call if you had a problem? If so call them asap. If not, then go to the ER. It is better to take care of this stuff quickly.

Good luck!

Hi Red,
Is she routinely flushing the picc? It is normally done with about 20cc of normal saline. You can give that a try. Otherwise, in order to prevent infection and to keep the blood level on her meds static, you will need to seek medical help. Anything you do to a picc line needs to be done in a sterile fashion.
Take care,
Okie

Hey,

Okie is right. My son had a picc line and I had to flush it with saline regularly but anything invasive must be done in a sterile environment because it is an open port into the body.
Take her to the ER. They can probably take care of you there.

Another solution is a home nursing service that may or may not be covered by your insurance.

Be careful and best of luck to both of you.
