I'm now under 5' 4" and was 5' 4.5" at my peak. Mom says it's a sign your dying. I'm having undiagnosed breathing problems. All tests say I'm fine. But signs are I'm not. God takes your breathe mom says. She says she'll miss me when I'm gone.

I'm ok with it and not all at the same time. I'm not getting anywhere in life. I kind of give up but haven't yet given up. Just wish i knew what was going on.

Some height loss is perfectly normal with aging. (I don't know your age, no offense intended if you're not old)
I'm sure some health conditions can cause it too. A lot of things can cause breathing problems too. Be sure to mention these issues next time you see doc.

Do not give up! You are a survivor! You are here for a purpose. Remember that life has ups and downs and you never know what tomorrow will bring.

Yes, we sort of settle with age. Not to worry, I was 4'11' at my peak and I am now 4'9''. And I have no plans of dying any time soon!

Talk to your doctor. I think you'll find it doesn't mean you're dying.
Thanks for this!

Is your mom just yanking your chain? Cuz my mom would say stuff like that to me just to yank my chain sometimes. You can never tell with some moms!

Lots of people shrink a bit as they get older. Its gravity. Has nothing to do with dying.

I wonder about height measurements. For years and years I have always assumed I was 5'5 the last physical I was 5'6. I know I didnt grow.

Agree. When I turned up at 5'3 after many months of them recording that I was 5'4 I wanted to know why. My doctor admitted that on visits where they don't take my height, they just use the last measurement so my information is wrong on my records for years at a time. I don't think they take these things carefully.

You do lose height as you age due to compression of your vertebrae. It happens to everyone.

I also feel like if you gain weight or are fat you will get a wrong measurement. My backside is sort of far from the measurement stick and I feel like bending back sot of takes off a 1/2 inch or so.
Thanks for this!

Was your Mom joking when she said she'll "miss you when you're gone"? I'm sure you're fine and not dying. Depending where I went for my measurements (school vs doctor), someone was an inch off. Hugs.

I used to be 5'2" and now Im 5 even. its not because Im dying. its because the bones in my back have compressed the disks. as a person ages these disks in their spine wear down, degenerate. with me some of this normal degeneration of the disks between the bones has resulted in slipped disks, bulging disks, thinnned disks and herniated disks.

my suggestion is contact your doctor. they can do a bone study on you to find out if your "shrinking" is a disk problem, a calcium or other vitamin deficiancy problem and get you treated for it.

but I do have to say in some situaitons yes shrinking is part of dying. I know people with bone marrow, bone problems that resulted in their "shrinking heights" then death like bone cancers.

so please consult your treatment provider they will be able to diagnose what the problem is in you and treat it if necessary.
