I just found out that I have a paraumbilical hernia and while the hole is small, if I don't get the repair surgery done now (without the mesh due to the small size), I was warned that the hernia will continue to grow larger, thus putting my health at risk.

Has anyone here ever had hernia surgery? If you had the surgery, how did you feel after? Did you have it with or without mesh? How bad did the anesthesia mess up your sleep and going to the bathroom afterward?

I've read online that anesthesia can cause constipation which I already suffer from.
Thanks for this!

I had an internal hernia due to loose skin and loose abdominal muscles from gastric bypass. It was very small and noninvasive so to speak.

I have a one inch surgical scar from my umbilical hernia repair (without mesh).

I had it done same day as my gallbladder removal Surgery. It was my first surgery aside from oral surgery. There was some pain but easily taken care of with meds and Rest.

The worst part was not lifting over 5lbs for such amount of time.

You’ll do great! Mine healed perfect.

Did you have laprascopic surgery? Was your recovery easy or hard? How large was your hernia? Mine is about the size of a pea so the surgeon doesn't think it needs to be sewn shut.

My doctor thinks I'm overreacting so we had a huge argument in clinic and the clinic director banned me from returning so I have to find a new clinic. I'm pretty upset about being gaslighted. A hernia is not a laughing matter. No matter how small it is. It's just going to keep growing if I don't get it sewn closed.

If i stick with the same healthplan, any new doctor will have access to my horrible doctor's records.

That doesn't sound too bad. Glad your hernia repair was easy to recover from.

I just need to find a new doctor, a brand new healthcare clinic, and another surgeon who will just sew my hernia closed now so I don't have to worry about it.

I knew a guy who got an umbilical hernia. I think from weight lifting but I’m not sure. He felt like a pop or something and drove himself to the ER. The next thing he knew he was waking up after surgery.

My surgery was laparoscopic surgery. It started out as exploratory because no one would believe I was jn pain.

I'm still at that point too -- I went to a hernia surgeon who refused to do an ulstrasound because he attributed the CT scan results to "human error." Um, who accidentally writes on a car accident victim's CT scan, "paraumbilical hernia."

How did you get the exploratory surgery scheduled since no doctors believed you? I have to keep making more appointments b/c I'm getting nowhere.
