I think I have mouse arm syndrome.

My right arm has been hurting nonstop lately. It hurts on the sides and lower parts just above and below my elbow. I didn't know if it was from sleeping or if it was from using my mouse all the time or both. It's progressively gotten worse since I've had to deal with some funky positions to update my spreadsheets, check emails, reply to some emails, and come online here.

My eyesight gets blurry, too, from looking at the computer screen all the time.

These are the perils of being isolated and homebound for nearly two years - with the overuse of the internet being my primary socialization outlet. It takes a toll on my body.

I hope I can heal at home from this. I'm trying to avoid the hospitals right now.

I hadn't heard of mouse arm syndrome, but I did get an ergonomic vertical mouse, and I find it a lot easier on the wrist.

Here is an example: https://www.amazon.in/Logitech-Verti.../dp/B07FNJB8TT

I'm sorry if it shows Amazon India and the price in rupees. My computer seems to be defaulting to that because I'm in India right now.

Thank you! I was wondering what I could do to correct this issue. I might consider getting an ergonomic mouse.

Try moving the mouse to the left of the computer, and use your left middle finger as the primary button pusher, and the left pointer finger as the secondary button pusher. You dont have to change button values or anything.

I had a 30 year career in computers. I had to start left-mousing idk after 20 years maybe due to pain and weakness. Another advantage is it frees up your right hand to enter numbers quickly if your keyboard has a number pad.

Thank you! That sounds like a more cost-effective solution! I'll try that. It'll take some getting used to though.

That's cool that you're ambidextrous. I'm sorry about the childhood injury though.

I'm not ambidextrous. At least I don't think I am. It will take me a while to get used to the mouse on the left.

@unaluna - What does "IKWYM" mean?

@downandlonely - And LOL at the rupees instead of dollars. I was like - is this the new inflation that everyone's talking about? Or, is this what they mean by price gouging?!

I can offer some help for the eye problems. For many months my eyes have been extremely irritated (grainy, like sand in my eyes, and blurred vision) from computer use. It was to the point that my eyes began having problems even after only 5 minutes online. So I found a wonderful otc solution. It's called Systane Gel Eye drops. I purchased a bottle from Amazon. It is not expensive. The regular drops are nothing special, but the gel is amazingly helpful.

I second Systane drops. Our optometrist recommended them twice a day for the dryness that comes from being on technology so much.

I also just have to step away from the technology sometimes for about an hour to give my eyes a chance to rest. Taking the time to consciously look up from your technology and let your eyes focus at a different distance is absolutely necessary.
