The data clearly indicate that consuming a food sweetened with no-calorie saccharin can lead to greater body-weight gain and adiposity than would consuming the same food sweetened with a higher-calorie sugar,” the authors wrote.

Yes, I saw this story being reported on CNN the other day. Seems the rats who consumed the artificial sweetener put on a lot of body fat. Guess I'm just a fat rat too. lol

Ah, I read it on the APA website (psychologists did the research, natch.)

Can you imagine? This was touted for eons to the diabetics of the world to help CURB their weight, and it could be actually causing it?

They've been saying this for a couple years about diet soda:

</font><blockquote><div id="quote"><font class="small">Quote:</font>
A University of Texas Health Science Center survey in 2005 found that people who drink diet soft drinks may actually gain weight; in that study, for every can of diet soda people consumed each day, there was a 41% increased risk of being overweight.

</div></font></blockquote><font class="post">

I don't generally buy anything "diet" or "low fat". The less mucked with the better I feel it is for me. The concept of non-fat cream, for example, makes me cringe.
