Have any of you ever had these? I had my first ones yesterday. i was standing in line at walmart talking to the cashier and to Rex when all of a sudden everything went blurry and then white and I stumbled out of the store and to my car where I sat for a few minutes drinking my crystal lite and my vision came back and I went on my merry way. I made my next stop and it happened again. I again went out to my car and sat and waited a few minutes and my vision cleared up so I called my eye doc and went in this morning and he did an eye exam just to be sure that there was nothing wrong with my eyes and he told me that I had a migrane without the pain. I was telling my T about it and she told me that they are called ocular migranes. So do any of you ever have them? It freaked me out I thought I was going blind.

Yes, I have probably had 50 of them over 10 years. I get a little flutter in my vision and then all goes black. I can hear but not see for as long as 30 minutes. It scared me to death in the beginning. I had a brain MRI and vision tests. The neurologist called it a "silent migrane". I have met others who have it. One day I was eating lunch with two medical professonals (I am a RN). All three of us have it! I thought that was weird. I had found an herbal product at my chiropractor which helps it. It's called "Petadolex". It is a dietary supplement which is the herb Butterbur. It relaxes blood vessels in the head. You can research it at www.enzy.com or call 1-800-783-2266. It really works for me. I can stop the vision effect within 1 minute by taking this.

I have had these since I was 15 (I'm 24) and I get them at least once a month. It really scared me at first, but usually taking a couple asprin helps my vision come back quicker. I have found that as my allergies and/or stress level gets worse, I get them more often (just like a regular migraine).

Thanks guys for responding. My eye doc wants to see me back in 2 weeks and he said if I have them between now and then he is going to refer me to a neurologist. I went ahead and called my GP to get the ball rolling on that because I think it has been to long for me to have lived with my migranes already. My GP has mentioned to me that he has been thinking about referring me to one anyway so this confirms to me that I need to see one. I will check into that butterbur though and see if I can take it as I'm on an MAOI and want to be sure that it won't mess with that.

Thank you for writing about your experience, through reading it I realized that this is what my son has had! He's had it maybe 3 times, exactly as you describe, and his eyes are fine.

I have migraines with pain myself. Ocular migraines don't sound fun either.

I have had several of these too. One eye will feel a bit weird at first, and then I seem to see what looks like a kaleidoscope. Its so strange and I absolutely hate it. I take some advil, lay down for 30 minutes or so and its gone.

I think the worst is that you never know when its gonna happen. Uggghhhh!!!! Ocular Migranes

I spoke with my GP and he has given the go ahead to refer me to the neurologist WOOHOO!! So maybe I can get some answers and finally get some relief from my migranes. I love my GP to death but I have exhausted his knowledge of migrane relief.

I have had these and the first one scared me to death... I thought I was dying from a brain tumor.

I have my pupils regularly dialated to make sure there is no torn retina or anything... also because I have a lot of floaters and occasionally flashes of light... but so far, everything has been perfectly fine.

The two times I have had epsiodes of ocular migraines have been times of extreme stress. They are definitely scary.

I have opthalmolgic migraines yes, but only in one eye at a time. My neuro-opthalmologist sees me on a regular basis to make sure the retina isn't detaching. Regular migraine medicine works for them. BTW you can have them without pain, and they still need to be treated. Untreated migraines cause all sorts of additional problems... see your professional.

They are very frustrating. It happens to me now on average once every other day and lasts for about 30 minutes.

I have lattice corneal dystrophy due to amyloidosis. My peripheral vision already looks like a kaleidescope, so I only have my center of vision left. It drives me nuts when I get the ocular migraines because it wipes out my vision altogether.

With me, it starts with a small bright primary color neon triangle I can see when I close my eyes. When I open my eyes, that part is missing - for instance, on TV I can only see half of a person's face.

Within a minute or so, more triangles attach to the first and begin to grow in a snake-like fashion until it takes up my entire visual field. It makes me very dizzy and sick to my stomach, so all I can do is close my eyes and watch the "snake" until it slowly disappears. It really sucks when it happens to me while I'm out in public because I not only lose my vision, I lose my balance and sense of direction.

Sometimes they are accompanied by a full-blown migraine headache.

Jbug - I hope you'll be able to find the source and get some relief from your ocular migraines.

I have an appointment with the neurologist on the 18th. So hopefully he can get to the bottom of the migranes. I was out at my parents house working on the inventory and had to stop. Luckily I was at a good stopping place and able to wait it out.
