In October we stumbled across a clinic where hubby can get FREE mental health care. We pay $0 for all therapist and psychiatrist appointments. It is wonderful! He's gotten great care and is getting better each day.

Now I would like to find somewhere like this for medical care. We have no insurance and no money to get insurance. Hubby has sleep apnea and I would like to get him a machine so that everyone can sleep better. But I just can't afford another test or another bill. Does anyone know of a place I can search? Or somewhere that offers this? The clinic we go to for his mental health care offers services pbased on a sliding scale. We're in Ohio, if that helps.

Thanks!

Wow this sounds like a great start for sure. Free therapy sessions are hard to find.

Did you ask at the same clinic about low cost medical care?
They usually have a referral sheet with numbers on them to call. Maybe some of the hospitals in your area have them. Some areas offer a lot of help.

Best Wishes,
Colors

Good idea colors! I will ask them Monday when we go for hubby's appointment. They've been a big help already....besides, it never hurts to say no.

Thanks again for your idea!

1day:

You're right the most that they can say is no! LOL...that's what I always tell my kids. Low cost health care?

I'll do a google search later and see if there is anything out there. I know sometimes (as with my family doc) a small town clinic or other places will have some funds set aside to assist low income and no income people. My dad was out of work (his wife was working) and since he had no insurance and couldn't work because he was having issues with his heart, the local hospital (charity hospitals are best, as you probably know already) set him up on a spend down program, where he didn't have to pay but for certain things and it was minimal. Like $50 for an MRI or something like that. And all the tests performed inside the hospital were free of charge. So...there are programs out there, it's just sometimes not out there for everyone to see. I will do a search. Perhaps there is a charity hospital close to your town that has this type of program. Perhaps you could ask the Department of Human Services in your area.

I wish I could be of more help , but that's all I know about.

I don't want to get too personal, but I do know this: In my state, when someone is disabled (mentally or physically) and they have a diagnosed condition, they can be signed up on Medicaid, and get a check started. I don't know the exact situation with your husband and yourself, but sometimes there are things that the state can do. Is there a state funded insurance ? I'm throwing out way too many ideas and not enough cold hard facts. LOL. Sorry if this is confusing I took my pain meds and I'm about to fall out of this chair!
LOL...Sending you good luck vibes that something really great comes from this situation.

Lots of luck,
Take care,
Kimberly.

Oh shoot, I almost forgot.

Generally in your closest "big town" there will be a christian charitable clinic, they might be one day a month but they will offer free health care and also free prescriptions. The only issues I think is some forms to fill out and then the wait. I understand that at times it can be very long (several hours) but it's sorta first come, first serve. I've had to to use this before. But it's all volunteer, that's why it's free. The one I went to even had a free eye exam and eye glasses (really cheap). It's just according to what all docs in the area donate their time.

Perhaps you could ask around some of the churches, even if you're not christian it doesn't matter about that, they will help if they can.

Still sending those vibes!
Kimberly.

Great ideas Kim. I'll have to do some searching around.

I don't know about the church thing...I haven't been to church in months...but I'll be going next month...cuz I hafta (that's the only way to get me to go at this point). There's a new minister that I don't know well (which = I don't trust him). Plus, I am trying to keep up the appearance there that everything is fine.

As far as Medicaid....doesn't a doctor have to sign something or reccommend something? My FIL mentioned getting hubby on that...but he really wants to work. Time will tell if he can though.

I will get searching. Thanks so much for your ideas!
