over the past month, ive gained six pounds. and i have absolutely no idea why. ive gone up a whole bloody jeans size and now my arms and stomach are really flabby. and i dont know why. im active, i play badminton for an hour twice a week, netball one hour a week, and rock climbing for about two.
im a vegitarian and i dont eat junk food, crisps or sweets or w/e
ive tried lowering my calorie intake to 1500 calories and it makes no difference. ive tried getting more exersise but my weight keeps increrasing. wth????
ive recently found out i'm slightly anemic, but i dont think theres anything else health-wise.
does anyone know why it keeps going up?

Have you started any new meds? Some meds can cause weight gain. Other then that I can't think of anything that would cause it, I suggest you see a doctor if this continues.

A change/increase in meds was a cause of my weight gain several years ago.

I wouldn't fret too much yet, you're still a teenager, and can fluctuate back and forth alot!!

I think one of the symptoms of depression is a sudden weight change, do you see a T?

if you're not taking meds then it's probably just a normal fluctuation. don't eat too little or exercise too much, though, because getting too few calories lowers your metabolism and leads to more weight gain. i really would not go less than 1500 calories. i know people say 1200 but i think that is too low especially for an active person your age.

I believe thyroid problems can also cause weight gain, so if you've been having any other symptoms, I think you should see your dr.

Hi, I agree that the thyroid gland if you continue to gain with no apparent reason rapidly i would suggest going to the doctor and asking for a thyroid test.

Sorry it is bothering and upsetting you so bad, and hope that you can find a reason for the weight gain, 6 pounds seem maybe a little bit of water weight.

I do not know you well but do you have any eating disorders that would add to the worry of the weight gain? I was just wondering I gain and loose and if it is overly upsetting to you and interferes with your daily functioning perhaps a counselor or therapist could help with all the stress over the weight issues.

Hope you are feeling better,

I know I started to put on weight (with out cause) when I had female problems - it turned out to be a rare tubal infection that was the culprit.

If you get your thyroid tested, you need TSH, FT3, and FT4...and thyroid antibodies! Most doctors won't order the FT3 or the Thyroid Antibodies, but hopefully you'll find one that does. Also, sometimes the doctor will simply call you and tell you that your labs were within "normal" limits. Call them and ask them for the "actual" numbers as well as the lab ranges... and get a copy of them!

Sometimes your numbers could be at the lower end of the range and you could have subclinical hypothyroidism...which causes weight gain as well as a lot of other symptoms...but most doctors treat the range, not the symptoms. So finding one that will treat your symptoms is difficult. You can, however, go to stopthethyroidmadness.com and find doctors in your area and further information...

Hope you feel better soon!
