Now I have another issue that Im going to post about in general health because im scared to death right now, ill post it here.
I mentioned to the doc that I've been having episodes where I will be falling asleep, and just as im drifting off, my heart starts feeling like its beating irregularly, and i cant breathe. I come half awake sort of feeling like im going to die because I can't breathe, and then i force a few short breaths(very very short, barely taking in air) and the feeling goes away as I wake completely. Oh, and when im half awake and cant breathe, i dont have the ability to move. My body is literally paralyzed. this is now three nights in a row this has happened, im terrified to sleep! I don't know if i should be going up to the hospital tonight or what I should do. Im freaked right out. I just tried going to bed with jer and it happened over and over and over. Everything I am reading is that I have sleep apnea, which makes sense, because I both snore and am overweight. Doc even gave me 2mg of klonopin a day, its not helping ![]() UPDATE: I called into one of the nurses at the hospital and explained everything, and she said to come in tomorrow morning and see my regular doctor, he will be at the hospital at 10am. She said it definetly sounds like sleep apnea to her, but that because I have been having it for a few days im probably ok to wait. She said if i have any other symptoms to call back and they will assess if i should come right in, and also of course if i feel its emergent then to come in right away. I am exhausted, i just want to sleep but I am scared of the bed! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() I just wanted to say that I used to have paralysis episodes like that and it is very terrifying. One I remember the most was when I was in the hospital after childbirth. I woke up in the middle of the night with this--paralyzed, unable to breathe, unable to move except my eyes. At that moment you don't think you're going to be able to make yourself breathe! There was a nurse at the other side of the other bed but I couldn't even speak to call out. And if I had then I would have been breathing, so wouldn't have needed her after all I guess. I still have that mental picture of the dim room, her sillouette against the window and the intense fear. I think the anesthesia (saddle block) was a factor, as does alcohol and other central nervous system depressants. I'm glad you're getting evaluated so you can get help with this. |

I have had this exact experience a few times- for me it was anxiety. Basically I was drifting off to sleep and the next thing I knew I was jumping out of bed, GASPING for breath, unable to breathe. Scary stuff. I'm sorry this is happening to you. I think seeing your doctor is a good idea. If it's a medical issue, you can get help, and if it's anxiety, that will help you know what direction to go to help yourself feel better. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I agree it sounds like apnea, I have the same thing when my asthma gets bad that was the diagnosis. Definitely avoid the klonopin until you know for sure!
