Does anybody out there know anything about psoriasis? I got a raging case around the time I spent over a week in partial hospital, thanks to job stress (mid to late November). I couldn't get in to see a dermatologist till the end of December. He gave me all these expensive creams and ointments, which I used, which worked great. Except that now, having started a new job, plus still working a few hours a week at my old one, plus teaching on the side, I'm horribly stressed again, and it's all coming back. Same places, same stuff.
What I want to know is, once you get psoriasis, does it ever go away, or does it just go into remission? I was doing really well, and then BOOM, here I go again and I don't see the derm again till mid-April. I can't believe all the stuff your body can produce under stress! I must really need to mellow out. ![]() Candy |

Candybear, unfortunatly once it starts it stays as you said it goes into remission, my Grandmother had a real bad case and in the old days they didn't have the creams and ointments, we had to smear a mixture of tar and mineral oil on her, in the summer time make sure to get a bit of sun light it helps control it some

I have plenty of creams and ointments and drugs, I just wanted to know if this crap is going to keep coming back full strength every time I get stressed out! It's annoying (and itchy and flaky) :-)

candy, it's always gonna be there, sadly. I dunno about you, but psoriasis is very embarassing for me because it's only on my face and when the weather changes to winter, it gets worse than ever, and when my stress level is up, it flares up full force and makes my skin very flaky and red. My suggest to keep it from flaring up so often is to wash the areas daily (and if it's on your face, don't use soap on it) and you don't need all that expensive prescription stuff. I went through everything with the dermo. and nothing worked long-term with me... The only thing that has helped it is Lubriderm Advanced Therapy cream lotion. Apply it everyday when you wake up and after showering it. Make sure you rub it in good to where it's fully moisterized into your skin... I've suggested this to 3 other people and it's worked for them as well, so maybe it'll work for you too. Just remember, sometimes the stress or weather is so complicating, not even the best medication in the world will keep it from flaring up.

Thanks for the tip Bama, I will check that out for sure. I have it on: side of nose by left eye. Abdomen. Right arm. IN both ears and behind the right one. All over my head, which I hate, because it itches like mad, and when I scratch, I look like I have a really tragic case of dandruff. ;-) THEN, I have eczema on my legs.
The eye part and ears are back, and the head part is back in full force, and everything else looks pretty OK, but I pretty much quit using the creams and stuff, especially now given that I have no prescription insurance until April 1 (changed jobs) and have to pay for my psych meds -- much more vital to my health -- out of pocket. Thanks for suggesting an over-the-counter idea that might work! Candy |
