Hi, I don't quite know where to put this question so I thought I'd start here. I am disabled with PTSD, Depression, Anxiety and Insomnia.
I am struggling with my son who has some definite issues that seem to be hurting the whole family.
My son is 6 years old, he's a bright boy who is doing wonderful in school, he's the middle child. When he was 3, I went through a medical error during surgery that turned our world upside down and ruined life as we knew it. We have had 3 years of hell. He has a younger brother (4) and an older one (14), he cannot get along with either sibling, gets physical with the little one and calls names to the big one. he disrespects my husband and I, gets very easily angered and irate over trivial things. I have never had any issues with him at school (like getting bad grades, getting into fights, not paying attention in the class) but at home his behavior is horrendous. He does not listen, needs telling 5-6 times before he does as he is told, bounces all over the couch. I do not want to label him and know that he needs to be seen professionally to be given a proper evaluation but I just wanted to see if any other parents of children with 'issues' can offer any insight or share their difficulties in parenting difficult children and at what step did you seek T/Doc help.

Thanks.

Have you considered having your dear son evaluated for ADHD? The behaviour you describe sounds like my ADHD son at that age.

Crying isn't a sign of weakness. It's a sign of having tried too hard to be strong for too long.

The fact that he is apparently having no problems at school makes me wonder if it might be time to consult a therapist about this. Sometimes the family may need a bit of restructuring to deal with a child like this. ADHD would usually be an issue both at school and at home. You might want to start with his pediatrician if you trust him to work with behavioral issues (some are better than others with this).
Thanks for this!

Thanks Sabrina and Chris,
I have sent an email to his classroom teacher to see what her input is about his classroom behavior, and tonight I'm going to speak to my T at my group to see who they recommend within the center that specializes in kids t. I want to get some answers and find out what could be wrong. Thank you both for your thoughts. appreciate it very much.
