How early can you get signs of being pregnant?
I'm 16 years old and 3 days ago I had unprotected sex after a party. We used the pull out method. How early can the symptoms come? Just today I've been feeling nauseous, cramps that last 10 minutes and small headaches every now and then.

I guess you've got a couple of weeks before you'll know. Hope it turns out the way you want

If you aren't due for a little while then you're not going to know for a while. I'd say wait a couple of weeks after your cycle (assuming you still haven't had one) and then take a test. My ex girlfriend and I took a test too early and it came out positive. After telling all of our family about it it turned out the test was a false positive, so never jump the gun too soon and even if you do take a test and it is positive see a Dr. first.

Plus, I am sure you are not ready to have a baby and I know by age you aren't so this needs to be a lesson learned and really shouldn't happen again.

Too soon for symptoms. Be careful girl. That method is not very effective. Use a condom and use it every time.

If it's only been 3 days you wouldn't be having symptoms yet. At this point the egg would be at the beginning stages of becoming an embryo. After a month a woman might be getting clues with breast tenderness but this also happens 2 weeks before a period.

It's very important you get on birth control pills and use a condom to prevent pregnancy and STD's. The pull out method doesn't work because sometimes a small amount seminol fluid comes out before ejaculation. Sorry to sound like a typical parent, but you don't want to have a baby this young.

You're probably getting psychosomatic symptoms, because you're worried. Even if an egg had been fertilised it wouldn't have attached to your uterine wall yet, so you'd have no physical symptoms.

Some expensive pregnancy tests can tell after two weeks, with an accuracy of over 97 percent, but really you won't know till your next period.

Women who have had children before can sometimes tell before they miss their period, but the symptoms are so nebulous you couldn't describe or teach them to someone who's never been pregnant before.

Regarding the pull out method... it is very unsafe. For one thing, the man might finish on the way out, and even if he did manage not to have an orgasm in or near your private areas, there is always some pre ejaculate with small amounts of sperm, any one of which could fertilise an egg. A lot of people have got pregnant that way.

I'm really sorry that you put yourself at risk this way, and I hope that everything works out well for you. As other posters have said, be careful.

And try not to panic too much... it won't help the situation. Chances are that you're not pregnant... and you won't know for certain for a number of weeks. Let us know what happens, we're concerned for you. Stay well.

You could also get preggo tests, you can buy them from your GP or a local store, you also may need to go STI testing as well, if you are getting symptoms like this

The pull out method is not effective!! It also depends on your cycle, and where you were at at the time you had sex. There are more fertile times..and thus times you are more likely to get pregnant(if your curious, you can google and find charts). Right now my advice for you is to try and relax. I know that is hard, but the more stressed and worried you are, the more you will try and make things become symptoms if that makes sense. And if you are stressed, it could delay your period as well, making you even MORE worried. So for the next 2 weeks or so, I would just put it out of your mind as much as possible. You can take an early response test about 5 days before your missed period(so maybe sometime next week).
The chances are though that you are not pregnant...so just hang in there. I know it is difficult, I have been in your position.

  • Of every 100 women whose partners use withdrawal, 4 will become pregnant each year if they always do it correctly.
  • Of every 100 women whose partners use withdrawal, 27 will become pregnant each year if they don't always do it correctly.

Pretty useless in my case. The only two times I ever used resulted in my now nearly 4 and 6 yr olds. I was twice your age at the time and had been married for 6 years.

Just today my boobs started to feel tingly and getting a little bit tender. I have an unusual amount of discharge, I'm very tired, my head hurts, I'm moody, when I stand up I feel dizzy, I feel sick, I have cramps.. etc
It's only been 10 days since I had sex. Could the symptoms appear this fast or am I just imagining all this?

You might just be so stressed that you're attributing this to a possible pregnancy. When was your last period? Most women are the most fertile at the half way(14 and up) point of the 28 days cycle. If you were having relations at this point, then there's a slight chance. Most women also get breast tenderness at the half way point. Some women who are very in tune to their bodies can tell early on when they're pregnant. If you're not, take this as a learning lesson and never rely on the pull out method. You should be using a condom to avoid STD's but also an effective birth control method. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Am I pregnant?
If your period is late, or you suspect you might be pregnant, don't panic. There are plenty of options, but it's vital that you find out for sure.
Quote:

See your doctor
Make an appointment to see your GP. They will ask you to take a urine test, with instant results. Whether you consider it to be good news or the last thing you need, your doctor can provide a listening ear and support if you need it.
Think ahead: Should you feel uncomfortable seeing a family doctor, you can ask to see another GP, and nobody will ask why. It's your right, after all.
Buy a pregnancy testing kit
This can be an effective Do-It-Yourself way of finding out if you're pregnant, though some can only be used when your period is at least two weeks late. You'll find a range of simple-to-use products on offer at your local chemist, all of which test for the presence of a telltale hormone in your urine that indicates whether or not you are pregnant.
Think ahead: Before you lock yourself away to test your urine, consider who you might turn to once you've got the results. Whether it comes as a shock, relief or a disappointment, it always helps to be able to talk about your feelings.
Take a urine sample to a chemist or health centre
Some pharmacists and health centres offer confidential testing. It's quick, with less chance of misinterpreting the results.
Think ahead: Consider bringing a trusted family member or friend for support.
Visit a Family Planning Clinic or Brook Centre
Here, you'll be dealt with in confidence and with respect - from free testing to friendly counselling. If you are pregnant, you'll get all the support you need to find a way forward that feels right to you under the circumstances. They'll go through your options, and won't force you into making any decision. It really is down to you. Even if it means informing family, the counsellor will help you every step of the way.
Think ahead: see the Next Steps box to find out details of your nearest clinic or centre.
Read our pregnancy testing article to find out more about pregnancy tests.
Take care!!

If you go to your school nurse, you can get a free preggo test without your parents knowing! Or even going to your local GP or getting them from Superdrug or Boots, local supermarkets also sometimes sell them, they will sell it to you without your parents knowing -Hugs-
