Trouble with social services and my son

My son finishes school early on a Friday, He was about half late this afternoon and when he did come home he come home with 2 social workers, This shocked me and my husband as this has never ever happened before.

Anyway I invited them in and they said that my son had marks on his back and that my sons mate had said that my husband had done it by whipping him He said it just joking but they took this serious and the teacher over heard him, They questioned my husband and he felt like he had done something wrong, My son has of course said that my husband hasn't done anything, these marks my son has he has had them for about 12 months and we have no idea what they are, So we now have to take him the doctors for investigations.

I know how much of a shock this must be for you.

I'm not sure what the laws are in the UK, but here in the US, if the teacher overheard something like that, she would have an obligation to report it to social services authorities. All I can say is to get everything in writing from your doctor. Once they understand that this claim is unfounded, their investigation should be over. I hope your son's friend understands what his "joking" has stirred up. Hang in there.

Oh yes it is the same here in the UK, I don't blame them really for taking the matter seriously, It was so much of a shock to us

So I took my son the doctors today and asked her to look at his back, She said that the marks are stretch marks due to him growing, Whilst I was at the doctors the social worker called my hubby took the call asking did I find out what the marks were, I told them his appointment wasn't until 4.pm they called at 4.30, Do they think I am superwoman

They are calling me back tomorrow.

Such a reasonable explanation. I thought your son had said your hubby did it when I read closer and saw that it was your son's friend. I hope the whole matter gets resolved amicably.

What a worrisome event, glad it's getting resolved!!
People have social service come in for different reasons. I have been investigated because my son will get violent and manic episodes. The social worker ended up really helping me, she kindly let me know she was "putting a fire under my butt" to get him in a special school, and to take serious action to protect my other 2 kids from his outbursts. She said her goal is alwasy to help the family unit as a whole as best she can. She ended up being a good support person.
