If parents out there would share their experiences, I'd appreciate it.
I'm curious what a daycare does with an 18 month old during the day? What about a preschool? Is it free play? What about storytime, art, music, coloring, toys.... Is it structured free play similar to children's gyms? Thanks! |

If you shop around you can find a daycare that educates your child during play and that has learning activities through out the day.... but if you do not look around you may end up with a daycare that does nothing more than watch & feed your child while they are away from you.
Check out prices for both daycare's and preschool's - as you may find that some preschools are cheaper and give more attention to the child. |

I agree with Rhap.
Research reasearch research. Personally I would make a list of several in your area, then contact them to ask if you can make a visit to see how they operate, to get more of a feeling for how they would treat your child. And ask questions! Most daycares would be happy to answer the questions or show you how they operate. Other than that aside, A nanny is a good option if your looking for more personal care or a one on one situation. That would allow your child to develop a personal relationship that could have him or her feeling more secure. Its all up to what you think your child would feel best. |

I agree with Rhapsody and Rainbow. Good daycare/preschools welcome parents to come in and observe them in action. Before you go make a list of your questions and concerns; another sign that the facility is a good one is that they’ll have their policies in writing. Things like what they allow in the way of ill children or policies make a difference. One thing I would check on is if they require immunizations. A local daycare did allow children without them (due to parental beliefs) and it ended up with a very sick infant with the mumps.
