I got a phone call last night from my insurance wanting to know how I am since I got out of the hospital. The whole damn phone call was a bot, I never talked to an actual live person. It gave me the option to get an email for a link to the Magellen website. That's who does my mental health health insurance. I went on the website today, and it really pissed me off.

There's a treatment calculator on the website, where you pick the mental ailment, and what you need for it. So I was curious and picked depression and psychologist. It calculated that I would need 7-9 visits with a therapist....wtf? Am I supposed to be cured in 7-9 visits? It takes 7 visits just to lay out all my problems and get to know the t.

I am so glad they don't judge based on this calculator thing for my problems. Bipolar wasn't even one of the choices. Luckily my state passed a law where insurance companies can't limit the amount of visits for certain mental illnesses, like Bipolar.

What really concerns me is that people might use this tool and get there hopes up that they will be cured in that amount of time.

I hate insurance companies 99% of the time.

A tape asking you how you are, how very thoughtful!

I don't know if people will think they will be cured that quickly; I think it is just for crisis intervention, to teach skills to help with staying out of the hospital/emergency room: Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Depression Treatment

My therapist recently told me that there was a book called "Short-term Bipolar Treatment". To quote OP, "WTF?!"

ive gotten 3-4 phone calls like this from my insurance but they were real people.
I HATED IT.
let me tell you why.

#1 only one of those times was from a person near me. 50 miles away. all the others were in MA or WA. im in texas cmon.

#2 idk these people. they want me to tell them lots of personal info.

#3 i tried asking 2 about my diagnosis since they were with my insurance and they wouldnt

#4 these people were actually quite mean at one point. because i said i wasnt sure about taking medicine and i had one ended up hanging up on me in the middle of the phone calls on purpose and raise her voice.

#5 i dont think i trust these people because of what i had to tell them and idk where most of these people were actually located. i think they were third-party insurance helpers so to speak. the insurance employed social workers in the country to do these "check in" calls. they insurance would call every time i got out about a week after i got out of the hospital saying if id like to talk to some behavioral specialist over the phone. then a third party employee would call me once a week. i just dont trust these situations. ive never been into therapy that was anything other face to face anyway.

I hear you.

I'm covered by the same group. They may have tried to call me but they don't understand the concept of TTY's and deafness. At any rate they do not have one Pdoc in the area where I live, outpatient is limited to 10 days and they always tell me cheerfully I'm fully covered w/ no limits for hospitalization! As if!
