Trouble paying for my abilify

I had to quit abilify bc my copay on medicare was $400+ a month. Latuda is also a good drug that costs a fortune. I gained weight on Abilify. Now I'm on seroquel bc it's one dollar a month. I've just started exercising and eating a good diet, so far no weight gain.

I'm on 30 mg. a day...The retail cost is over $900. When I take my meds in the morning it boggles my mind that each pill costs $30! Fortunately I have insurance that covers most of the cost. I read that Abilify won't go generic until 2015.

I feel your pain. I have tried so so many meds and Abilify has been the only one that truly worked with no side effects. I had a card from the manufacturer that only made my copay $25 but somehow the pharmacy voided the card and without it I can no longer afford it.

It is a shame that you finally find something that works and they charge an arm and a leg for it.

Emgreen I read that too about 2015 generic. Someone told me though that they'll most likely get a bunch of lawyers maybe change a little chemical makeup a bit and extend the hell out of the patent. It's awful.

That's unlikely. They got it extended because they expanded use to children. They can't change the composition. I'm sure they have new "blockbusters" in the works.

I hope you're right, Michanne. Although I gained weight on it, I know it has been a life saver. My poor AA sponsor can't pay the Latuda copay on Medicare. It's around 3 thousand dollars for 3 months. She is 60 and had built up resistance to every other avaliable option. I've only been medicated for bipolar since 2006, and I believe the drugs will get better. They have an once a month injection in the works.

My NP just gives me sample of abilify. It made me throw up so she game me pills to help with nausea. Luckily I don't throw up anymore, however I've been on them for a while now and it doesn't seem to be doing anything. Maybe see if your county has something similar.

One of the first things I tell a dr is generic first. My financial and insurance situation has changed way too many times to start an expensive drug even on a coupon. Coupons only work if you have insurance, btw.

There are so many out there and the difference between one that works and one that doesn't has more to do with your unique chemistry then the technology. The ads for abilify try to convince you it is so unique. I even bought into it. But it really isn't. Other atypicals may work just as well in fact I read an article from a dr who said she had greater success with carbamazepine. I feel bad for your friend. I know some people have had to try a lot of different things but not everybody has to.

Going forward, actually right now, the research is not focusing on brain chemistry. It is moving into neurology and genetics. So new drugs in familiar classes... I would want a really good reason to spend those bucks because there should be a generic that is similar enough.

I did post link to an assistance clearing house here, but since no one will actually look at all the resources available [including ones that will offer assistance for generics and other services beyond RXs] obviously that was a complete waste of my time.

It wouldn't be my first choice because it is pharma sponsored. Each program is different. You don't know if you eligible until you know what you are taking and the program can end or you may have renew and you could declined. Rules can change. It's in the FAQ. I personally need a better reason

Might be useful for people already taking a branded drug however.

That's fine I knew it was a total waste to bother posting anything at all.

update:

My appeal with Aetna was successful. They said "the claim was not adjudicated properly" and that my co-pay is actually $80 (which I can afford). I am a very shy person who has trouble with social anxiety, so this experience taught me the necessity of speaking up for myself.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read and/or posted in this thread.

I started it 3 months ago and I felt like throwing up in the morning/little appetite for 2 or 3 weeks. Then it went away.
