I originally applied for disability about two and a half years ago. It kept getting denied, and I finally got an attorney, and I had my hearing in august of last year. In November, I got "notice of unfavorable decision" which is basically a denial. We appealed it right away, but we are still waiting to hear back on that. Anyway, I had also tried to get temporary state disability, but I couldn't get it because of my daughters survivors benefits (I was told by SS that my daughters benefits would not affect my federal disability if I ever got it).
Anyway, we were supposed to get one more check last month for her, but they decided to cut it off one month early (they "decided"" her 18th b-day was earlier than it was). As soon as I realized we were done with that, I contacted the local DSHS and applied for ABD, which is temporary state disability. It took a while because of medical documents, etc, but I just found out today that I am approved! It's not as much as the federal, but at least its something.

What is temporary state disability and how do you apply for it? Never heard of that.

Well, I think that is something that varies from state to state, but where I live, its a small amount of money from the state to hold you over. Turns out that I am not getting it anyway, because I was already denied at the federal level. I guess I just misunderstood--I'm only eleigible to get free toilet paper, but I would have to pay 30 bucks to pary for gas to get to that place to get, so that is kind of stupid. I've decided to just forget the whole thing and try to get a job, even if it means I have to threaten people to get one. I'm not gonna take meds anymore either because as of next month, I will have no wat to pay for so I say **** it.

Happy to hear the semi-good news. I hope your application for disability benefits is ultimately approved, as soon as possible.
But I also hope you have a good Plan B, or maybe a Plan B AND a Plan C. I've seen so many people depend entirely on a favorable decision by the government and end up getting disappointed. The government is generally good, and generally does the right thing. But the government is operated by people, and people are not perfect. Mistakes are made. Injustices are done, and sometimes never corrected. That's why we all must be resourceful, prepared, wise, and always have a good Plan B that is ready to go, just in case the government lets us down. Even if the government should happen to let us down, life goes on. The main thing is that WE don't let OURSELVES down. As much as possible, we must be as much like the hardy pioneers who settled the American continent, or the hardy Native Americans who lived her for thousands of years before that. I am 100% in favor of you getting disability benefits. But I just believe that the government is not perfect, and we must be prepared for various possible scenarios, so that we are not devastated by an outcome that is possible. Well, good luck! |
