Now, I can`t be the Type 2 diabetic on this whole board. I was just curious as to what people without insurance or medicare/caid do, when it comes time to purchase your insulin. I know Rite Aid charges my insurance company about $2000 bucks every month. Now due to deals with big pharma and all that crap, I know they pay no where near it but I am sure I would without insurance.

My doctor was telling the vials of Humalog are like 25 bucks at Wally World??? Can anyone verify this?? If it is a 100ml bottle, that would last me 1 day! 2 bottles 3 days. It just seems like it would be a lot cheaper just to give it all up and let nature take its course. I also take Lantus 36-48 units a night. So I could get 2 days out of one of those.

Please, please, anyone on here that uses insulin, please give me some input. I know I will never be able to pay for the stuff myself and SSDI we have been waiting now for 29 months now. If I have to quit taking it, I will just quit taking it. I don`t know if Humalog or Lantus would help any or they are going to pull the "you make to much crap" If I make too much, I would sure love to know where it is??????

Hiya.

No you are not the only type 2 diabetic on this site. I wanted to respond to let you know that you are not alone in this. Having said that I live in a different country where its not the same pharmacy/insurance system. Hoping that some-one soon comes along and can give you the response you need.

Are you able to google wally world and see what they charge for this medication?

Good luck.
Thanks for this!

I haven`t had to pay for anything since March. That was my 3 days in the hospital, so I met all the deductibles, co pays, etc. I am not sure what you mean by donut hole though?? I no longer have the memory or rationale of figuring stuff like that out. Sorry.....

I have been looking but the only thing I can find are coupons. I am able to use them, I am dang sure going to use them. I get all my stuff at Rite Aid and with what my wife has for insurance now, it would still cost a few hundred bucks out of pocket and I have 16 different Prescriptions I have to fill every month. So I know it would all cost, more than she makes. Then as another kick in the teeth this year. There is no 100% paying for everything once you reach you deductible and co-pay. All hospital stays are covered at 80% and the other 20% is all yours. Sure glad they didn`t do this a few years back when just one of the 4 hospitals I was in, the Bill was $350,000!!!! And they wonder why so many people are homeless and try to get assistance, which we are not eligible for. That's is the part that tears me up! I worked from the time I was 12 until I was 46 but none of that matters. Have been fighting SSDI for 29 months now as well.... Nothing but brick wall after brick wall! And they wonder why people reach their breaking point and take their lives. I have tried once. I still think my wife would be better without me.

I don't know if you've looked into this or not but Lilly does have prescription assistance and you can find it here -

LillyCares.com - Lilly Cares - Provided by Lilly USA, LLC

There is also a coupon for Walmart through GoodRX here -

https://www.goodrx.com/coupon/dispat...SK4E3RSjlccRfs

From what I see, Humalog is one of the most expensive insulins on the market. Is it possible to get your doctor to prescribe something less expensive for you? Since I am not a doctor and I can't possibly give you good medical advice, I can only give you suggestions.

Also, I don't know if you have an attorney fighting for your SSDI or not, I do have a good link for you with good information about applying for SSDI. It helped me tremendously when I applied on my own without an attorney and was approved. This thread is from our sister site at NeuroTalk and even though it was started in 2011, the suggestions still apply today -

Don't start your claim unprepared!!! - NeuroTalk Support Groups

Within that forum, there are many other threads that you may find relevant to your situation.

I wish you all good things and hope you find a workable solution for yourself!
Thanks for this!

Have you looked into www.rxoutreach.com ? It knocks prices down substantially for a lot of meds if you are low income. I haven't used these but there is also www.xubec.com and www.needymeds.com. Rxoutreach saved me when I was uninsured.

In fact rxoutreach doesn't require financial information. I didn't realize that. don't know about the others.

If you need name brand meds most are available through the pharmacy companies through patient assistance programs. (There are discount cards and assistance which is free 100%). If you don't seem to qualify for assistance still apply and include a note explanining your situation. I've done this a lot of times and always have been approved even though I don't qualify on paper.

I do have a lawyer for SSDI after they turned me down the first time. At this point in time, I think they are just looking for a maximum paycheck!
