Alright, I've got my pronoun nametag on and I'm ready to face this day head on! Gonna go forth and conquer the day! Gonna be confident! Spread Nonbinary awareness! YEAH!

LET MY PRONOUNS BE HEARD!

Gosh I'm nervous though...

When xe, xyr, and xym are used, are they pronounced with a "z" sound?

I personally would like to promote the use of a nongendered pronoun which is not plural. It seems more accurate and correct to me.

Yeah! It's a z sound
And yeah, non plural pronouns sound so much nicer in speech.

The tag has gone over well so far. Most people just ask what non-binary means. I only feel dysphoric around my theatre teacher who constantly divides the groups into 'boys' and 'girls'. I get stuck in my assigned gender

Even though most of the stuff we do and scripts we have don't need to be restricted gender-wise

Maybe bring her a book or an article on what do they call it - non traditional or counter type casting? That boy girl division stuff sounds awful - and not like what ive encountered in my post-high school theater ecperiences.

UPDATE:I am no longer wearing the name tag (it was getting in the way a lot) but I am now being much louder about my pronouns and demanding that people stop calling me by my assigned gender.

Trust me, it's not easy to be brave
I've been struggling with my gender identity for years, and only now have I gotten the confidence to present myself the way I have always wanted to. Even now it's hard to get people to listen and refer to you properly.

It takes a lot of time and patience to even try to tell people that they're misgendering you, because people can get confrontational and ask questions, and it's really unnerving. It's a struggle.

I'm still really shy and nervous about telling people and correcting them.

It takes time to build yourself up, but it feels good when you can finally speak up for yourself. Just keep your head up!

Seamster, what you're doing is really admirable. You're not only sticking up for yourself but other transgender people that might encounter these people. You never know, your actions might help someone else who's watching and giving them the courage to one day be who they are as well. Well done!

After one semester of being out to my teachers and not my classes, I decided to start each year with publicly stating my pronouns and gender during the "introduction exercises" part of the first or second day of class. Hardly anyone actually uses them... and teachers are worse than students. This past semester that just ended was the first full semester in which my classes were aware of my pronouns. And I had two teachers who would constantly refer to me in feminine pronouns. Every time I would correct them and stop class to ask if they would re-state their statements with the correct pronouns, I felt myself losing respect from the rest of the class... it was really hard.

you are so much more brave than I am! That's so great that you can stop them like that. It's so good that you confront them with it, even if they don't listen.

And yeah, the teachers are way worse than the students. They act like they don't have the time for you, and it's so rude. That said, it's still wonderful and astounding that you can interrupt them and ask them to restate themselves and use your correct pronouns.

i'm that kind of really assertive person who's not afraid of confrontation... and i've already talked to the dean of students at my school, who has stated positive things about trans students and is working to make our school's bathrooms gender neutral and trans friendly. Without the support of the school, it'd be a lot harder.

That's great! I'm glad you have such an open environment. It's good to have such a supportive system (even if those who are part of it aren't so great).
