I was wondering how many of you gents are using a SSRI for your
mental issues.....of course my question being the sexual side effect of not being able to orgasm since I returned to Celexa 20mg....I cannot orgasm......even masturbating to the point of my hand going numb and my face turning blue due to lack of oxygen and I still cannot release my little swimmers......... absolutely sucks and makes me more depressed.......... |

I was just put on Lexapro for GAD, if this becomes a problem I think I'll take the GAD instead, I feel I would be troubled by lack of being able to orgasam more than GAD

I was on zoloft and orgasm took a long time but, I could.
I stopped taking it and take herbal Rhodiola. Zoloft made me not care about anything. Seriously, I could have been told of the death of a family member and I wouldn't have had a reaction on that crap. I did like being able to go a long time, it was a nice side effect. |

I too take zoloft and actually haven't been bothered by any sexual side effects. Just lucky I guess.

How long have you been on Celexa?
I do think that if you are able to achieve an erection it means you have decreased libido and not complete impotence. As other users have noted it is possible to overcome this decreased libido as it is in part caused by the depression you have. For some people sex is a very important part of their lives. If you feel like you can't live with decreased libido for a while talk to your doctor about other medications or therapy. (or both?)

It does not effect having a erection or libido, but it does make it hard or impossible to cum most every time, I thought I was gonna fall out one night, but I kept on going,LOL
maybe this side effect will pass, but I quess its better than the other side effects I am on Lexapro, they say its the same as Celexa, but I have read its not, its like a box of left and right hand gloves, they are almost the same but your brain can tell the difference |

I think it can be very useful for men to figure out to what extent they define their manhood by their sexual capabilities.
This is not to say that the only acceptable response is to do therapy on the issue, just that it (like many things) can serve as a productive jumping-off point for greater self-knowledge. (And sometimes greater self-knowledge can help to resolve the problem itself, among other benefits.) |
