How do you know if you've taken too much SSRI (escitalopram). I am REALLY sensitive to meds and started on 5mg of escitalopram which was pure hell. A few weeks later went up to 7.5mg again hell. Now yeserday went from 7.5mg to 10mg - felt I was going to faint after a couple of hours couldnt sleep then when I did couldnt wake up properly dreadful dreams and today i feel like Ive been hit by a truck so took just 7.5 again but I feel even WORSE now. Can anyone help? I dont know what to do? Should I stop altogether or stick with 7.5mg?

I know these meds can make your body feel miserable at first, but try to give yourself some time to adjust. A 7.5 mg dose of citalopram isn't likely to be enough to help with depression. If you find the increases bothersome, ask your pdoc if you can titrate a little more slowly. That might make the periodic increases less bothersome.
And no, 10 mg isn't an overdose. You're feeling temporary side-effects. Hang in there. ![]() |

I would put a call in to the doctor as soon as possible. It could be that this med just is not right for your body. Or it could just be side effects. But, there is no reason you should have to suffer like it sounds you have been.

I tried so many anti-depressants that had the side effect of migraine headaches. After several years, the migraines became almost permanent even when I wasn't on any meds. I don't know if they permanently changed the chemistry in my brain but the migraines ended up being 24/7. Before I was given antidepressants, I never even had a mild headache let alone a migraine.
I am now being treated for migraines & the worst part is that the only thing that would help the migraines is a high dose of a narcotic called fentynal & have been on that for over 4 years without any migraines. I know I can't go on forever with this med.....which is a scarry position to be in. Given my past experiences, I wouldn't keep giving a med that caused a horrible headache any chance, but that is based on my experiences. I honestly think our bodies tell us when something isn't right & it is our responsibility to listen. I hope you find some relief, Debbie
